Chapter 31: Mr. Fang’s Cake Shop goes viral.
A young star with a huge fan base was quite amazing indeed. Within just an hour, videos and pictures about Han Jiayue making cakes in the cake shop spread on Weibo. The topic-#Han Jiayue, a baker# hit the headlines in an instant.
Thinking it was a low-key official event, Han’s fans turned to lavish praise on the Mr. Fang’s Cake Shop, and expressed their sincere gratitude to the sponsor for its preference for their star.
A couple of stars of the Xingzhou Entertainment had come to the cake shop after they saw Mr. Lu eat the egg tarts in the company last time. They didn’t feel anything special at that time, but now when they saw that Han had been there for an event, they posted their pictures taken last time at once in order to follow up the hot topic.
This wave of free marketing came so fierce that soon the topic-#Have you ever tried cakes of the Mr. Fang’s Cake Shop?# appeared on Weibo.
The cake shop hit big in an instant. It became quite popular on the Internet in just a few days. Customers queuing up for the cakes stretched all the way to the school gate, and it was said that it took four hours to wait in line at weekends.
Various media, big or small, came to interview. Although Fang was not famous, he was an actor at least. As for the matter of possessing a popular shop, it would be best to keep a low profile, so he let Lin Yao come forward on behalf of the shop to be interviewed.
As a result, the moment the interview video of Lin, a baker with a poker face, was released on the Internet, it caused a sensation once again immediately.
“Now even a baker has to be so handsome?”
“I know this guy. He taught Han Jiayue how to make cakes, hand by hand!!!!”
“Ah, I remember it. My god, he is so handsome! I like this couple.”
Having looked through all the comments, Han Jiayue went wild with joy. He took the advantage to post a picture with Lin Yao on Weibo. The couple “YaoYue” was confirmed immediately.
The final episode of the Republican-period drama in which Han played a part was broadcast that night. The audience rating kept going up with the hot topics on the Weibo, which enabled the teleplay to come to a perfect end.
When Lu Yanzhou got the report of the audience rating the next day, he got mixed feelings. He never thought the data that his team had failed to reach finally completed because of Fang’s cake shop.
Lu decided to reward Fang well.
Due to the recent surge in sales, the cake shop was critically short of staff. While looking for new bakers, Fang had to help at the shop himself. He got crazily busy every day.
Having put the last plate of cakes into the oven finally, Fang paused to have a look of the phone, happen to see the message from Lu.
Baby Zhou: There will be a film festival the day after tomorrow. I have tried to get a place for you. Just to take you to see the world.
Baby Qiao: Thanks, Mr. Lu, but I’m afraid I can’t afford the time. I’m busy taking care of the cake shop.
Baby Zhou: …
Grabbing his hair, Lu was slightly annoyed as he suddenly got the feeling that he was like a dissatisfied housewife in purdah, whose husband was devoted to his own career outside and thus ignored her. …What a mess!
Two days later, Fang still kept busy till the closing time. Both the cashier girl and the baker had left, and it became quiet in the shop. It was not until he had free time that he thought of the film festival mentioned by Lu. So he logged on Weibo to see the live streaming with photos and words.
The festival was a big event indeed with waves of high definition pictures posted on Weibo. Seeing the big stars were competing with each other for beauty of looks on the red carpet, Fang thought to himself that he was lucky he hadn’t been there, or it would be quite embarrassing among them.
While thinking of this, a new series of pictures from the scene appeared on the screen, among which Fang saw a familiar figure at first sight. On the picture, Lu sauntered with his long legs to step on the red carpet in a dark green suit.
Lu attended the festival as a producer followed by a team of film cast members. There was a handsome young guy in the team who was quite remarkable. Although he was not a leading role in the film, he enjoyed a high popularity and was a new star strongly advertised and supported by the company.
Being the first time to attend a grand red-carpet event, the handsome young guy was a little reserved in front of the cameras. Therefore, Lu protected the young guy all the way like a knight by letting the latter stay beside him. Led by Lu, the handsome young guy felt both nervous and curious. He seized Lu’s arm from time to time, and leaned over to whisper in Lu’s ear intimately, looking as if they were getting along quite well with each other.
Fang just felt the handsome young guy was slightly familiar, and after seeing the scene, he finally came to realize the young guy was just the one he had come across when he looked through the Weibo following list of Lu yesterday. The young guy was Lu’s latest focus, just behind Fang on the list.
Fang murmured, “Well, well, another new lover.”
Before going to bed, Fang received the phone call from Lu. “What’s up, Mr. Lu?” Fang sounded cold.
“Have you seen the live stream today?”
“Yes.” Fang tugged at his pajama, and there was a strange awkwardness in his words. “The handsome young guy beside you looks quite good.”
Lu joked, “Are you jealous?”
Fang’s heart skipped a beat and his hands stopped moving unconsciously as he thought to himself whether the guy had taken the wrong medicine. Why would he, a kept lover, feel jealous? Fang changed the topic in a flurry by asking, “Is it over now?”
“Yes, just over. I’m taking the handsome young guy to the hotel.” Lu said proudly.
Fang got angry immediately, and shouted at the phone, “Then, Mr. Lu, go to bed early! Take care of yourself, and don’t get too tired!”
Lu neither said anything nor hung up his phone after hearing the shout of Fang. Just when Fang was hesitating whether to say goodbye or not, he heard Lu laughing in a low voice at the other end of the phone suddenly.
“I won’t sleep with him. Is that OK?”
The voice was gentle and deep, revealing a kind of helplessness but with a hint of doting tenderness at the same time.
Fang’s heart beat wildly out of control, and it was not until quite a while later that he bit his lips, and said, “OK.”
As the black car traveled smoothly in the night, the driver took a quiet look in the rear-view mirror, and saw Lu sitting at the back seat alone with faint smile on his face seemingly in a quite good mood.
