Huo Gao used to charge 10 dollars for a consultation, with additional fees for writing prescriptions. Even though his charges were very expensive, people were still willing to come to him for treatment. Huo Gao’s status in the medical field was in a league of its own.
“Say something! Are you mute!” He Ning roared furiously.
The thing which He Ning hated the most was when people kept quiet and did not reply to him. He was already extremely patient with Huo Gao. If it was anyone else, he would have asked Jia Zhong to drag the person out to get a beating.
“I don’t have any say. Just do whatever you want. What is there for me to say? Even if I speak up, you’ll still complain and blame me. Why should I invite trouble for myself,” Huo Gao muttered softly.
He Ning realized that he had spoken too harshly just now, but words were like spilled water and there was no reason for him to take them back. He also could not bring himself to apologize to Huo Gao.
“I’ll give you the root from a 100-year-old ginseng. Help me find out which hospital Tan Jing is in,” He Ning said awkwardly.
Huo Gao’s eyes lit up and his resentment from before immediately disappeared. He had been eyeing the roots of He Ning’s 100-year-old ginseng for a long time. Every time he made soup for He Ning, he almost could not resist the urge to pluck one root and bring it home. It was his professional ethics which stopped him from doing so.
“Tan Jing must be in a private hospital. Besides, it’s a place which neither you nor I can find. It’s in a covert location,” Huo Gao said.
“Is it handled by the person surnamed Bao? Or is it that private hospital?” He Ning asked curiously.
“I’m not sure. Haven’t you asked someone to investigate this for a long time? For something which you can’t even manage to find out yourself, it’s a little too much for you to ask me about it,” Huo Gao said helplessly.
How could he, a mere doctor, find out what He Ning could not?
“Don’t you know a lot about such matters? If I don’t ask you, am I supposed to continue looking for a needle in a haystack?” He Ning said.
Huo Gao actually had a rough idea of what was going on, but he did not know if it was the truth or just fake news deliberately released by the Xia family. He was neither a spy nor an investigator, and he did not have the ability to deal with such information and differentiate whether it was the truth or not.
“The only thing we can confirm now is that Tan Jing is in a private hospital under ‘L’, but his hospitals are extremely difficult to locate. I’d advise you not to cause trouble in any territory under ‘L’. No one can say for sure what he’s capable of,” Huo Gao said as he looked at He Ning sternly.
“L” was the owner of the private hospitals used by the various prominent families. No one knew his true identity, so they identified him by “L” to make it easier for everyone to address him.
He Ning had wanted to set up a trap for the Xia family, but he did not expect the process to end here. It seemed that he had to start with Tan Jing’s family. He should not have to do it personally. Since that silly niece of his was back, she should help him out.
He Ning asked Jia Zhong to send someone to unintentionally tell He Mei about the Xia family’s “divine medicine”. A lot of the details were exaggerated and there was not much truth in what was said. The person even told He Mei that the Tan family and the Xia family had a long-standing grudge and also made it sound as if Tan Bo’s death was imminent.
He Mei believed everything she heard and drove straight to the Tan family’s house. As soon as she reached the village, He Mei’s brows remained furrowed. She parked the car at the entrance of Tan Jing’s house and slowly got out to walk into the Tan family’s courtyard.
“This lousy place…” He Mei said disdainfully.
“Who are you? Why did you park your car at our house?” Jiang Yi said bluntly.
“I’m here to visit Tan Jing. Isn’t she at home? I have a favor to ask her,” He Mei said, pretending to sound gentle.
When Jiang Yi heard that He Mei was here to ask for Tan Jing’s help, she immediately changed her attitude. Since He Mei was the one asking for help, she would definitely be willing to give some money or a gift. Seeing that He Mei did not dress like them, Jiang Yi immediately welcomed her into the house with a smile. As soon as He Mei entered, she could smell a stench.
However, those who wanted to achieve great things had to endure many things. Otherwise, her efforts in coming here would be in vain.
“Take a seat! I’ll get you a glass of water!” Jiang Yi said excitedly, her eyes crinkling into crescent moons.
“I don’t need a drink. I’m just here to visit Tan Jing. Is Tan Jing not at home today? Uncle, why are you wrapped up so tightly in broad daylight? Are you in poor health?” He Mei asked curiously.
