Chapter 50: Money For Last Night II
This was even more baffling and more confusing compared to ‘doing it’ right away.
Was he going to kiss her?
That couln’t be it. She was ‘sleeping’ now, right?
He was supposed to travel overseas. Why would he kiss her goodbye when she was still ‘asleep’?
He got closer. Much closer. His hot breath and fiery scent lingered next to her, almost igniting any moment now.
His breath paused by her lips for a long time. A very long time.
Then it slowly moved away. Further and further away until he was gone.
She subseequently heard footsteps like he was walking towards a table, and what sounded like the scribbles of a pen on paper. Then he returned to the bed and placed something on the nightstand. There was a pause before he walked away. The sound of his footsteps grew fainter until it disappeared.
He left.
Gu Qingqing let out a long sigh of relief, the longest in a while now. Perhaps it was because she was knackered or maybe it was because she was too nervous. Either way, her consciousness tumbled into a deep gulf until a phone call pulled her out of her nightmare.
“He.. llo…”
“Thank god, you’re alive!” Li Youyou sighed.
“I’m fine. You don’t have to worry,” she groaned as she struggled to get herself upright, only to realize that she was not in the car anymore but back at home.
Did she dream about Leng Sicheng leaving?
If it was not, then did Leng Sicheng carry her all the way from the car to the house last night? Perhaps he even slept next to her until just now. Did he nearly kiss her while she was asleep before he left?
On top of that, when secretary Cheng called and asked about Chen Wenjie just now, Leng Sicheng sounded very cold as they discussed. He completely gave no indication that she was his new lover.
But Chen Wenjie and him had only been together for less than two weeks, right? He would not have moved on to another one so quickly…
Also, he dealt severely with that Boss Du, who was hitting on Gu Qingqing last night…
“… It is good to know that you’re okay. Leng Sicheng looked like he was going to kill someone last night!” Li Youyou exhaled, continuing, “Oh, by the way, what about the money?”
Oh, right! The money!
Gu Qingqing climbed off the bed.
The first dim light signified the break of dawn. She looked at the clock. It was only a little past seven.
Seven. That meant that Leng Sicheng had already boarded and left on the plane…
Last night, he forbade her from borrowing money from other people. That must have meant that Leng Sicheng should have settled the money issue like he always had before this.
She shook her head. “Thank you, Youyou, but I think Leng Sicheng might already have settled it for me.”
“Oh… alright, then. Tell me if you run into problems again.”
Li Youyou said no more after that and hung up.
Once the phone call was over, Gu Qingqing felt as if every ounce of energy had been sucked from her body. She had only just laid herself on the bed when her mother rang, sounding very desperate.
“Qingqing!!! Where is the money?!”
Gu Qingqing hesitated for a moment. “Hasn’t he given it yet?”
“What joke is this?” cried Wu Aimei, her voice trembling sounding distressed. “They said that if they don’t see the money coming in by six in the evening, they’ll call the police immediately! I couldn’t get my son-in-law on the phone! Did you tell him? We have ran out of time!”
Gu Qingqing sprang from the bed. Suddenly, a thought hit her.
Seated on the nightstand was a check. Leng Sicheng’s flamboyant handwriting was instantly recognizable even from afar.
On it were written with the words:
Money for last night, 10,000 yuan only.
