Chapter 125 Driving A Wedge
“Just tell me what it is. We’re already friends. Is there anything else you need to hide from me?”
She had a feeling that what Carina was about to say was very important to her and might even affect her future.
Looking at Emily’s eager and curious eyes, Carina put on a look of hesitancy.
She glanced at Emily, then sighed. “Well, I guess I better not. I guess I was just being overly sensitive.”
However, Emily’s curiosity was completely aroused by her. She felt like a feather was stirring in her heart, making her unable to sit tight.
“It’s okay, Carina. Just tell me.”
“But I’m afraid that if I tell you, it will affect your judgment and your relationship with Jocelyn.”
This time, Emily did not become vigilant at the mention of Jocelyn. Instead, she was confused. Within a matter of a few minutes, she not only let down guards towards Carina but also regarded her as a friend.
What Carina said was extremely effective, and every word she said was like a thorn in her flesh.
Therefore, before Carina could tell her the exact reason, Emily subconsciously drew a line between herself and Jocelyn.
“I’m already an adult. I have my own judgment, so please don’t worry and tell me.”
Carina looked hesitant, but she was already smirking secretly. She thought that the relationship between Emily and Jocelyn was very strong, but in the end, with a few words, she was able to drive a wedge between their friendship. “In that case, I won’t hide it from you. Actually, I don’t think Jocelyn treats you as a friend. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have hidden the reason why she was hospitalized from you.”
Carina gave Emily a sympathetic look, planting a seed of doubt in her heart.
Jocelyn did not tell her why she was hospitalized. She only said that she sprained her ankle. However, from what Carina said, Jocelyn seemed to be hiding something from her.
Emily didn’t look happy that Jocelyn, whom she thought was her friend, was not completely honest with her.
Carina had never taken her eyes off Emily’s face from the moment she spoke. Now that she saw Emily’s unhappy expression, Carina knew at once that she had placed the right bet.
As expected, Jocelyn did not tell anyone about this. Carina suppressed the smirk in her face and continued to drive a wedge between Emily and Jocelyn.
“I think all friends should be honest with each other. Maybe Jocelyn has her own difficulties, but I don’t think she should keep it from you if she treats you like a friend.”
“Maybe, but I choose to believe Jocelyn.”
Perhaps Emily did not realize that but when she said she believed Jocelyn, her voice was not as firm as it had been at the beginning. Clearly, she was also starting to doubt the relationship between Jocelyn and herself.
Carina lowered her head to look at the time and estimated that Jocelyn was about to come back. She said to Emily, “We have been talking for a really long time. It was good chatting with you, but I have to go for lunch now. Otherwise, I won’t have the energy this afternoon.” “Alright, then hurry up.” Emily didn’t ask Carina to stay. She fell into her own thoughts after Carina left.
Because she was so focused, she didn’t even notice when Jocelyn returned.
“Hey, Emily! What were you thinking? I was calling you, but you didn’t hear me.” Jocelyn placed Emily’s food in front of her.
Looking at the orange juice with a few pieces of ice and the freshly made hot sandwich, Emily looked softer. “I was just thinking about the competition in July.” Emily didn’t tell the truth and brushed it
off.
Jocelyn was also very interested in the design competition that Emily was talking about. However, seeing that Emily did not want to continue, she swallowed what she wanted to say and took a bite of her beef burger.
Jocelyn did not know what had happened after she left. At this moment, Emily, who was usually lively and talkative, was unusually quiet, making the atmosphere between the two of them a little awkward.
Jocelyn was even wondering if Emily was unhappy because she had implicated her.
Just when Jocelyn was thinking about how to make Emily happy, Emily spoke.
“Jocelyn, are we friends?”
Jocelyn was caught off guard by this sudden question but she nodded. “Of course.”
