He shook his head slightly with his eyes cast downwards. As if he was hesitating to speak, his voice was light. “I was drunk yesterday.”
“Yeah… I know.”
She calmly drank a mouthful of the soup.
“I didn’t do anything to you, did I?”
“Pfft—”
That question came so out of the blue that it resulted in her uncontrollably spitting out that mouthful of soup onto his handsome face.
“I’m sorry!”
She hastily got some tissues to wipe the liquid off his face. Her gaze was entirely evasive the entire time, not at all daring to look him in the eye.
Why on earth did he mention that? It totally caught me off guard.
“That’s enough of wiping!”
Jiang Beiyuan grabbed hold of her wrists to stop her, but she broke free of his grip in the next second.
Their eyes met, with hers blinking nonstop. The man studied the woman’s face keenly in an attempt to find the source of her unhappiness. Right then, memories from the night before flooded his mind.
From what he recalled, he must have kissed her.
He’d behaved so brashly and willfully in his drunken state.
D*mn it…
He did not want her to alienate him again for this reason.
“That’s because yesterday, I—”
“Hold it! Nothing happened between us yesterday! It’s true!”
The woman took off after saying that!
She was being a coward!
She did not even know what there was to be afraid of after dashing out from her shop!
Right then, she received a call from her bestie, so she took the chance to go look her up!
“So he kissed you twice?”
As Ding Baoyi’s loud voice resonated across the quiet café, Yan Nian could not help longing to shove her fist into a certain lady’s mouth!
“Keep your voice down, sis!”
Her friend snorted. “I’m not nagging at you, but how can you let a drunk skunk kiss you twice?!”
She instantly felt embarrassed and frustrated at herself.
“I… couldn’t resist his handsome face.”
“Hey, wait. That’s not right. Didn’t you say the two of you have had zero interaction after you registered your marriage? Why is he suddenly interested in you?”
Her bestie was a meticulous person. She had long wanted to ask her about this matter.
Yan Nian had no choice but to confess everything about her marriage to her.
The next second, though, her friend’s loud voice rang across the café again.
“No wonder! So, you two just married each other for the sake of his money and your resemblance to his ex-girlfriend?”
“Ah…”
“Gosh, you two are truly a pair of weirdos!”
“What could I have done? A good-looking man said to me he would treat me well, so in the heat of the moment, we went ahead and got married!”
“Just how good-looking is he, huh?”
Ding Baoyi’s curiosity was piqued after hearing all that her friend had to say about her husband: tall, handsome, fair-skinned, long-legged, and stylish.
Yan Nian subconsciously conjured up an image of that person waiting by the window.
Dressed in a clean set of casual clothes, his light and beautiful figure appeared slightly indolent with a hand in his pocket. His brows were like the spring wind, and his eyes, in particular, were of perfectly classic almond shapes. When he looked at her, his half-smiling eyes suddenly darkened and they seemed to be filled with stars.
She gulped down her saliva, shook away those thoughts in her head, and cleared her throat. “Only eight words can be used to describe such a hunk!”
“Which eight words?”
Her friend leaned forward eagerly only to hear her smugly saying, “His unique looks are unparalleled in this world.”
“Tsk! Can you not talk to me in this manner?”
Her phone vibrated at that moment.
It was a message from Jiang Beiyuan, which said he had left his white doctor’s coat at home and needed her to bring it over to him.
She had been looking for an excuse to drop by his hospital and take a look at his working environment, and now, she finally got the chance to do so.
Her friend drove her to the central hospital. On the way there, however, one of the back tires burst. Ding Baoyi cursed, “Ugh, why does it have to burst at such a time? I won’t be able to send you to the hospital. You’ll have to find your own way there!”
“Alright!”
And so, she hailed a cab for herself but ended up getting stuck in traffic in Ning City’s third ring road!
When she finally reached the hospital, she alighted from the cab, then inquired about the whereabouts of Jiang Beiyuan’s department before running over to the said direction. Bang—
She bumped into someone around the corner.
Sh*t!
It was truly an unlucky day for her today!
She rubbed the sore spot on her forehead and felt a swelling bump there.
An old man with gray hair, whom she bumped into, suddenly started coughing.
She hastily helped the old man up upon regaining her senses.
“Are you alright, sir?”
The elderly man got into a violent fit of cough, his face flushed red.
“Are you okay, sir? Don’t scare me!”
The incident happened so quickly that she could not even recall who bumped into whom first. If this old man turned out to be a fraudster, his acting was truly flawless!
