Bam—
The man before her smacked the table, unhesitatingly disrupting her flashback.
“You’re now Beiyuan’s wife. Shouldn’t you take care of your sickly husband? You don’t even have the heart to drop him a visit! What kind of a wife are you?!”
Yan Nian: “…”
…
Truth be told, she was a coward.
Even though she used to be a class bully who was always making threatening gestures and going against her form teachers during her school days, she could no longer keep up with the act now that she had gotten older. Her mentality was no longer the same.
She could not be bothered to put up a protest after getting yelled at.
And so, she followed the man to a villa.
The spacious building, which was built in the second phase, had European-style white walls. It looked like a castle from afar.
It surprised her a little. Never did she expect that Jiang Beiyuan, a doctor, could actually afford to stay in such a luxurious house.
Xu Kuangjie, who was in front of her, took the initiative to ring the doorbell.
It took about a minute or so for someone to come answer the door.
That person had a tall frame, good-looking features, a deep facial contour, and a cold temperament. The man, who was lazily leaning against the wall, exuded hints of sexiness in his purplish-blue loose pajamas with his sleeves half-rolled up.
“Why are you here?” asked Jiang Beiyuan, his gaze on his friend.
His usual deep and magnetic voice was now tinged with a slight hoarseness.
The latter remained silent, but he shifted slightly to the side to reveal the woman behind him.
His forehead creased at the sight of her.
“Who told you to bring her here?”
Yan Nian: “…”
Look, he doesn’t even want me here!
“I’ll be taking my leave, then, misters!”
“Well, since you’re already here…”
Just when she was about to turn and leave, he turned his body slightly.
From the sickly pallor on his handsome face, one could tell that he seemed to be down with a severe cold. As he bent down to let out a cough or two, he said, “You should come in and take a look at the house. After all, this will sooner or later be your home.”
Yan Nian: “…”
She stepped past the doorway, but before she could even survey the interior of the house, the man beside her suddenly leaned over and rested his head on her shoulder.
“I’m feeling a little dizzy. Let me rest my head for a little while.”
She was speechless, but when she heard his heavy and breathless voice, she volunteered her help. “I’ll help you to the sofa, then!”
“Alright.”
Xu Kuangjie quietly watched this scene from aside.
Gosh, look at this petite woman helping the man who’s a head taller than her to the sofa.
I don’t even know if he’s truly feeling weak or just putting on an act.
…
She had to admit, this house was indeed well furnished with its clean, Nordic-style design. The stairway, sofa, and living room were neat and tidy as well.
The only thing lacking was that the house was too empty, making it seem cold and devoid of humanity.
“I’ll cook you some ginger and spring onion soup. My dad used to cook this for me when I’m down with a cold.”
Jiang Beiyuan agreed to it, and so, he watched her enter the kitchen while lounging on the sofa.
His buddy sat across him and chuckled at the sight of the figure in the kitchen. “I don’t even know what you like about her. I can find a bunch of such petite and delicate-looking women on the streets.”
He liked her so much that she had been constantly on his mind throughout his adolescent years.
His lips lifted into a faint smile. “It’s good enough that she cooks me a bowl of soup when I’m sick.”
“Hah! What you need then is a nanny!”
He shot his friend a glare.
“Aren’t you leaving yet?”
“Hey, I brought her here for you but you’re chasing me away?”
“Did I tell you to do that? What happens if I pass the germs to her?”
“Yeah, and you’re not worried about passing them to me!”
Xu Kuangjie did a mental eye-roll before he grabbed the coat next to him and got up to leave.
When Yan Nian walked out of the kitchen with a bowl of soup, she found Jiang Beiyuan alone on the sofa.
He extended his hands toward the bowl in her hands, but she chose to place it on the table, instead. His eyes narrowed slightly at this.
Does she hate me that much?
