After Gu Yan left, Mo Xiuchen went back to the room and looked at Wen Ran, who was sound asleep on the big bed. His heart was tearing apart, writhing with agony.

He sat at the edge of the bed, gazing at her for a while before finally pulling a strand of her hair, rousing her from her slumber.

When Wen Ran came out of the bathroom, she noticed Mo Xiuchen, lost in thought at the foot of the bed. Her eyes flickered, and she greeted with a light laugh, “Mo Xiuchen!”

Concealing his emotions, Mo Xiuchen picked up a comb, approached her, clutched her shoulder, and gently said, “Ranran, stay still, I will comb your hair.”

“…Okay!”

Wen Ran nodded obediently and stood still, letting him gently and slowly comb through her hair.

“Mo Xiuchen, has my test result come out?”

Her clear eyes gazed at their reflections in the mirror. The man’s silhouette was tall and upright, elegant, with a gentle and warm demeanor, yet under his irresistible charm, she could see the pain in his heart. He wasn’t like this when she walked out of the bathroom.

Although it was just a transient moment, his face brightened up as soon as he saw her, and his eyes softened, but she sensed something wasn’t right.

Mo Xiuchen calmly combed her silky hair, a gentle smile on his face showed no emotion, regardless of what she said. In a tender and mellow voice, he assured, “Not yet, the result might be out by afternoon. We will go to the hospital after lunch.”

They walked hand in hand on the bustling streets of D Country, with Wen Ran curiously looking around. Mo Xiuchen, however, seemed disinterested in everything, his eyes focused on the exquisite beauty by his side, as though he could not get enough of her.

In the end, they only grabbed a local snack in this foreign land before rushing to the hospital.

They arrived at the hospital at half-past two.

“Ranran, where do you want to go tonight?”

As they walked into the hospital, Mo Xiuchen casually asked. Wen Ran thought he was trying to distract her and calm her nerves. She gave him a faint smile and countered, “Where do you want to take me?”

Taken aback by her question, Mo Xiuchen’s eyes sparked. Grinning, he suggested, “The nightclubs here are pretty famous, let’s check them out tonight.”

Nightclub?

Wen Ran was surprised and stared at Mo Xiuchen with wide eyes.

This response was unexpected. She never thought Mo Xiuchen would suggest going to a nightclub. Though she was pampered by her parents and her brother, they never allowed her to visit mixed places like nightclubs.

According to her father and brother, such places were too chaotic and not suitable for a girl as they were unsafe.

Being disinterested in such places, she never visited one.

“Ranran, have you never been to a nightclub?”

Mo Xiuchen stopped, squinted his eyes at Wen Ran, his smile deepened, with hints of mockery, seemingly amused that she had never been to a nightclub.

Frowning, Wen Ran retorted, “Is it shameful to have never been to a nightclub? I am a good girl and naturally won’t go to such unsafe places. Are you a regular, looking for romantic adventures there?”

At the end of her sentence, she squinted her eyes and flashed a playful smile at him, imitating him.

Mo Xiuchen chuckled, stretched his hand to ruffle her hair, which Wen Ran dodged and slapped his hand away feeling dissatisfied.

“Ranran, you are worrying too much, not everyone visits those places for romantic affairs. Sometimes, I go there for business meetings or to relax with a drink. As for adventures, Ah Feng seemed to be more interested in them.”

Wen Ran rolled her eyes at him. Even across the Pacific Ocean, he did not forget to blame Luo Haofeng to clear his name in front of her.

“Ranran, since you have never been there, how about I accompany you tonight? Nightclubs can be fun… ”

Mo Xiuchen’s captivatingly deep voice did not sound forceful but piqued Wen Ran’s curiosity, to which she readily agreed, “Okay, take me there tonight.”

“Hmm, with me by your side, none of those safety concerns you are worried about will occur.”

Mo Xiuchen spoke confidently; Wen Ran nodded with a smile, naturally believing him.

“Ranran, Mo Xiuchen, you’re here!”

Exiting the elevator, Gu Yan spotted Mo Xiuchen and Wen Ran chatting at the hospital entrance and marched towards them.

Wen Ran smiled at Gu Yan, “Dad, are my test results out?”

Wearing an unchanged smile, Gu Yan glanced at Mo Xiuchen standing beside her, exchanged a look and said, “Ranran, the results are in. They are pretty similar to the ones you got in our country. Let’s go upstairs, Brown, Joseph are waiting for you in their office.”

A slight change flickered in Wen Ran’s expression. Despite Gu Yan’s seemingly routine words, her heart sunk.

‘Pretty similar’ suggested differences. From Gu Yan’s words, it seemed that her condition worsened compared to her last examination.

The grip of Mo Xiuchen on her hand tightened subtly as he softly comforted, “Ranran, don’t worry, everything will be alright.”

Upon hearing his words, Wen Ran made an effort to smile and nodded, “Dad, let’s go.”

They took the elevator to Brown’s office.

Only Brown and Joseph were present, another doctor, Mary, was absent. Mo Xiuchen held Wen Ran’s hand right from the moment they entered the office and didn’t let go even after they sat down on the couch.

Gu Yan sat next to them, face to face with Brown and Joseph.

Several examination reports and CT scans were placed on the table.

Brown and Joseph were close friends of Gu Yan. Therefore, they amiably addressed Wen Ran as “Ranran” without any grave undertones. Brown handed a few reports to Mo Xiuchen and Wen Ran, saying, “Ranran, you can take a look at these results first.”

Mo Xiuchen accepted them, and they both stared at the papers.

Wen Ran didn’t understand any of those figures and images. Mo Xiuchen couldn’t completely comprehend either, even though he had studied them quite a bit during these days.
