Chapter 657: Chapter 657 Guests Have Arrived_1
Alexander Summers’s eyes slanted downward, and his gaze fell upon the bunch of white roses in Gavin Graves’s hands.
“You’re visiting a patient, why do you even bring flowers…” Alexander couldn’t help but offer a smile that was both strained and insincere as he looked at Gavin.
And they were roses no less.
Alexander somewhat didn’t want Gavin to enter.
“Young Master Graves is here.” Purple Summers lay in the hospital bed, her view blocked by Alexander, only able to see a corner of Gavin’s clothing.
Gavin entered with the flowers in hand, asking her, “Feeling any better?”
Purple Summers smiled faintly, “I had a sleep, and now I feel much better.”
Around the room, Gavin noted the spacious and bright ward with a comfortable environment. On the table, there was a blue ceramic vase, in which he placed the roses.
The roses were semi-bloomed buds, each pure white and plump, their fragrance rich and deep.
“Thank you, the flowers are beautiful,” Purple expressed her gratitude to him.
It was basic etiquette to thank someone for visiting a patient. Nothing to make a fuss over.
Alexander, however, was on high alert, his eyes dark as he walked over to sit beside Purple, glaring at Gavin with a somewhat predatory gaze.
Purple prodded Alexander’s arm, “Would you pour a glass of water for Young Master Graves?”
“Me, get him water?” Alexander’s eyes widened with disbelief. He had already shown great restraint by not throwing Gavin out, but to serve him water as well?
“If you won’t, am I supposed to?” Purple Summers also widened her eyes in astonishment, not understanding Alexander’s strong reaction.
Purple then whispered to him, “When a guest arrives, shouldn’t you offer them a seat and a glass of water?”
Alexander thought about it and, for some reason, his mood mysteriously improved.
He stood up and walked over to the water dispenser, pouring a cup of clear water for Gavin.
Purple Summers was speechless, suspecting that Alexander was doing this on purpose. There was tea available, and there was juice – anything else would have been fine. Why did he insist on bringing a cup of plain water?
Fortunately, Gavin Graves didn’t fuss over it and accepted the glass of water, thanking Alexander with a “Thank you.”
“No need for thanks – you’re the guest. I should treat you well,” Alexander managed to infuse a simple sentence with a tone of sarcasm and scorn.
Gavin couldn’t help but smile as he asked Purple, “How can you stand him being so petty?”
Purple pursed her lips in a smile, thinking that finally, someone saw this guy for what he truly was.
“Did you come here to visit or to sow discord?” Alexander’s anger flared, and his words grew less polite.
Gavin raised his eyebrows slightly and looked at Alexander with a smile, “Oh, are you that afraid that I’ll drive a wedge?”
Alexander’s lips tightened slightly, visibly irritated.
But Purple found it all the more amusing.
Gavin addressed Purple, “The birthday banquet was supposed to be a happy occasion. The incident that occurred has left me and Gerald Graves feeling quite regretful. Now you have been injured on my behalf, and I’ll remember this favor. In the future, if you need anything, the Graves Family will not hesitate to assist.”
Alexander’s face immediately turned cold, “Can you have any less shame? She was clearly injured because of me! Do you need to show off your capabilities here?”
Gavin replied, “But the gun was pointing at me at the time…”
“We were standing the same way; Purple was saving me!” Alexander pointed at him with contempt, “Mind your image. You will inherit the position of family head in the future. Even for a life-saving favor, you have to compete with me? Is it necessary?”
Gavin smiled faintly, “Roy Howard, even if Purple did save you, the target was me. She took a bullet for me; that’s a fact that can’t be changed. Besides, she blew up that van, saving not only me but everyone at the banquet that day. It’s only right that I express my gratitude to her, what’s wrong with that?”
After some thought, Alexander lifted his arm to embrace Purple’s shoulders, his lips curving into a sly smile.
“Purple is my woman, you can just thank me directly,” Alexander shamelessly said. “That plot of land on Jade Mountain is quite hot because of you, how about you give it to me as a token?”
Gavin chuckled and shook his head, looking at Purple, “If one day you can’t stand him anymore, you can come to me.”
At those words, Alexander stood up abruptly, about to burst with anger, when the nurse came in.
“It’s time to change the dressing,” said the nurse.
Gavin said his goodbyes to Purple, “I’ll come to see you another day.”
