Song Wenxin jumped out of her skin at the sudden intrusion of noise.
“Miss Song, I’ve brought you a change of clothes,” the help announced from outside the door.
“Come in!” Song Wenxin, composing herself, looked toward the door and stood upright.
The help pushed the door open and entered the room, pulling a trolley of clothes.
Having arranged the clothes neatly, the help turned and prepared to leave the room.
But was stopped by Song Wenxin.
“Hang on a minute!”
The help stopped in her tracks and turned to look at Song Wenxin, asking, “Miss Song, is there anything else that you need?”
“Actually, it’s not anything in particular, but I just feel that this place is a bit too quiet, don’t you think?” Song Wenxin said, her eyes roving around the room. Perhaps, having grown up in a lively household, she was not used to the silence and found it difficult to adapt to this new environment.
“Sir does not like noise.”
Song Wenxin nodded. “Then, how about adjusting the lighting to brighten up the room? I find it a bit dark,” she suggested, looking up at the lights in the ceiling above her head.
She was not used to dimly lit rooms.
“Sir does not like too much brightness,” the help continued.
Song Wenxin was dumbfounded and dearly wanted to retort that their boss had too many weird quirks.
“Miss Song, is there anything else that you need? If not, I will leave you now. Sir does not like–”
“All right. You don’t have to tell me any more about Jiang Beihan’s idiosyncrasies. Where is he, anyway?” Song Wenxin finally gave up, not wanting to hear anymore. She was not inclined to listen to the help talk incessantly about Jiang Beihan’s pet peeves and everything that might irritate him, as though there was not a single thing in this world that he liked!
“He should be in the study,” the help replied.
Nodding, Song Wenxin said, “Okay, I got it. You may go now.”
“Yes.” The help nodded and turned to leave, shutting the door behind her as quietly as possible.
After letting out a sigh, Song Wenxin mumbled to herself, “This Jiang Beihan is a real weirdo.”
So it was true—that rumor about the direct relationship between the level of eccentricity and wealth—that rich people tend to behave more quirkily.
Take Jiang Beihan as example, he was, without a doubt, filthy rich, but he was also extremely weird and eccentric!
…
Song Wenxin took a shower and changed into the undergarments and nightgown brought by the help. Having dried her hair, she emerged from the bathroom.
Needing the time, she looked around for a clock, but she could not find any timepiece at all in the bedroom.
It was extremely quiet in the room–so quiet, that she felt very uneasy.
And, there was not even a television in the bedroom to provide entertainment for whiling away the time.
After a long search, she found some paper and writing instruments–the only things she could use to pass the time.
Sitting on the carpet by the sofa, she put the paper and writing instruments on the coffee table and started drawing with the pencils.
Song Wenxin majored in fashion design. Since she had unfinished homework from school to be completed, she decided to use the time to put some designs on paper.
However, after doodling a couple of times, she paused and put down her pens.
It was just too quiet here… so quiet that she felt disconcerted.
However, that was not the point. The point was that the eerie silence scared her.
Admittedly, this fear was probably the aftereffect of the many horror movies that she had watched recently!
Being in the eerily silent environment all by herself gave Song Wenxin goosebumps and made her hair stand uncontrollably.
…
The study.
Jiang Beihan was in the process of reading through the information of the Shen family that his assistant had just emailed. As he got to the page of Shen Jiayu, his fingers slightly tightened.
He was focused on the information regarding the relationship between Song Wenxin and Shen Jiayu.
Fiancée and fiancé.
His dark eyes emitted a flash of unfathomable emotion.
