Chapter 154: Lesser Demon
He watched as the three-meter tall humanoid being emerged from its shell with a fierce roar, its pointed teeth and pure black eyes giving William the chills while its fingers curled and a set of long claws poked out of its skin around the knuckles, elongating like the claws of a familiar mutant that William had seen in a movie.
The Lesser Demon tried to take a step forward, but the Perfect Confinement Arrays activated in that instant, restricting its movements completely. The Demon roared in anger, unwilling to be sealed away again after so long. Its black eyes turned a dark red as a laser shot forward and instantly broke through one of the Perfect Arrays.
The Lesser Demon continued firing off laser beams, shattering the Perfect Confinement Arrays one at a time until they were no longer functioning. The entire process took less than a second, which made William slightly nervous.
The Lesser Demon revealed a sinister smile and tried to move, but the improved Arrays activated at this moment, angering it further as its movements were restricted again. It used the same method as before, shooting laser beams with its eyes, but the improved Arrays were much more durable and took four hits before shattering.
Before the Demon could shatter even a quarter of the improved Arrays it ran out of energy. It closed its eyes and began absorbing the surrounding Mana, but William wasn’t going to let it do this for free.
He used some Mana and performed a Light Element Spell that he hadn’t practiced much, shooting a laser beam of his own at the Demon’s head. The attack was slightly off target, cutting through the Lesser Demon’s left arm.
Where the Light Spell hit, a dark patch was forming on the Demon’s skin, spreading a few centimeters until that portion of the Demon’s arm had turned black. The Demon’s arm fell to the ground, its body regenerating the lost part slowly.
At the rate it was reforming, William had about thirty seconds before the Demon could use its left arm again.
The Demon became furious, changing the target of his laser beams to William. The moment it had recovered enough Mana, it fired off two lasers that would surely kill any detestable human.
Unfortunately for the Demon, William had prepared for this. The two laser beams crashed into the improved Perfect Barrier Arrays, shattering only three before losing their energy. The Demon’s fury increased upon seeing this, but it would need to take time to gather more Mana before it could launch more attacks.
Even though it was pissed off at William, it knew its various methods were greatly restricted while it couldn’t move. It saved its Mana for the improved Confinement Arrays, enduring a series of Light Beams that William launched at it.
William was worried about how nonchalant the Demon was about losing all of its limbs. It didn’t take long, however, before he found out the reason.
When the Lesser Demon was left with only half a head and its torso, the creature activated some sort of Spell, all of its body parts including the lost arms and legs melting into blood, then reforming in the center as a completely undamaged Demon.
What the f*ck is that healing ability? How can that be comparable to my own regeneration?
William was both surprised at the Demon’s incredible healing speed, and the System’s own evaluation of his Regeneration Talent. Was it stronger than he knew?
There did seem to be one flaw with the Lesser Demon’s regeneration ability. The three-meter being had reduced in size to around 2.8 meters, so William assumed that it sacrificed some of its own body to reform itself.
At least it’s not completely overpowered…All I have to do is keep attacking it until its body is completely destroyed.
Of course, it wouldn’t be that easy normally. The only reason William was even able to land these Light-based Spells was because the Demon was confined. If it weren’t for this, the Demon could change the shape of its body since it had no bones and completely avoid taking damage.
William wasn’t going to let the Demon keep regenerating itself, nor was he going to allow it to break all of the Confinement Arrays.
He activated the Five Elements Explosion Array, shielding his eyes as a bright light enveloped the entire room. The Lesser Demon sensed a threatening aura as it too was blinded, but it couldn’t take any measures to protect itself because of the other Arrays that sealed its movement.
The intensity of the light increased dramatically as the five Elemental Arrays raised from the floor and merged in the center, just over the Demon’s head. The light changed from a simple illuminating effect to a scalding Magic Spell that burned the Demon’s skin and melted its flesh.
The Demon roared in pain as the Light Spell burned away much of its body, its entire outer layer of skin turning charcoal black while chunks of flesh fell to reveal a dark red mass of blood within its body that appeared to function like a bone.
The light was suddenly eclipsed by a wave of pure darkness, reducing visibility to almost zero. Even with William’s Vision Talent, he was only able to make out the outline of the Lesser Demon. The sudden change gave the Lesser Demon a chance to catch its breath, but its body size had reduced to just under 2 meters. It would need a lot of time and blood to regain what it had lost today.
The darkness didn’t last long, replaced with a booming explosion with combined support from the Fire, Wind, and Earth Elements. The Light and Darkness Magic seemed to only be the catalyst for the chain of events to follow.
The ground erupted like a volcano, destroying even the incredibly tough floor and ceiling of the trial tower. It was at this point that William lost track of the Lesser Demon, unable to even see a few feet in front of him due to the mass of dust.
Sixty of his Arrays in front were instantly destroyed, while four of the Arrays guarding his back had also shattered. If the Lesser Demon had continued targeting William’s Arrays, he might have taken serious damage from his own attack.
Outside the trial tower, the Cultivators that were currently setting traps for William felt an earthquake that shook the entire Labyrinth of Tears. Some of the traps that didn’t have failsafes were triggered, killing a few Cultivators in the process.
William activated his Life Sense, but wasn’t able to sense the Demon, so he used the Navigation Talent to identify the most recently disturbed ground, just to get an inkling of its position if it moved.
He still wasn’t able to locate the Lesser Demon, but the explosion had died down, so William surveyed the area. He found the Demon after a few seconds, lying on the ground completely defeated, while its size had been reduced to less than a meter.
Not only this, but its strength was now at the bottom of the Core Formation Realm, meaning William could now kill it with ease.
