Bai Yan gasped at those daring words.
Let him come to you instead? Where did you get the courage to speak this way?
Bai Yan was at his wit’s end. He could imagine the rage Lu Zhengya would feel when he heard the audacious message. He refused to take the consequences for a decision he did not make. However, as every second ticked by, Jinli got closer and closer to completing her change in accomodation.
Thoughtfully, Jinli dropped Bai Yan a reminder, “Mr Bai, I would suggest you complete your errands quickly. Or else, I’m going in and closing the door on you.”
Bai Yan’s eyes widened. Those words shook him out of his dilemma. He had no choice. Hesitating, he replied, “… Give me a moment.” Gritting his teeth, he paced to the Bentley.
From a distance, Jinli watched as the windows lowered, and Bai Yan conveyed her message courteously to the man inside. All of it done in a half-bow.
Wow… such high and mighty airs…
Jinli’s lips twitched in disgust as she watched. While she was in the Heavens, she had seen plenty of these cocky people. Evidently, they had favours to ask from others. Yet, they had insisted on holding on to their superficial honour as Gods/Goddesses/Spirits. Jinli had never looked them in the eye. She simply couldn’t be bothered with their arrogance. In any case, she had never had trouble finding a buyer for her Lucky Charms.
As she criticised him silently, Bai Yan’s hands opened the car’s door. First, a pair of long, strong legs exited the car’s frame. Closely following them was a man of a tall and well-built stature. Topping off this attractive body was a face, beautifully sculpted, with sharp and proportionate features.
Hmmmm?
Shock crossed her face.
Why does it feel as if I have seen this face before?
Jinli stared hard at this man, blinking sporadically. She examined that face closely. He was clad in the finest of suits, his hair was salon-perfect. He seemed used to receiving punctual service and had a cold and authoritative air. His sharp eyes fixed on Jinli as he sauntered over cooly, but still seeming mysteriously condescending.
Not only was this man familiar to Jinli, even more oddly, she also could not tell his fate. Logically, as the Koi Goddess, Jinli should have been able to see anyone’s fate. In these uncommon cases, there were only 2 possibilities. Firstly, this man was entangled in Jinli’s own fate. Secondly, this man was not a typical simple human.
As he moved closer to Jinli, Lu Zhengya could feel her constant stare burning on him. Under that “passionate” admiration’s influence, Lu Zhengya subconsciously propped up his chest and shoulders. An innate reaction, a man’s urge to impress his lady.
Has she finally recognised me? She must be spellbound by me now!
Confidence and smugness grew within him. Hiding all of it inside, he put on a stoic face and looked at Jinli, waiting for her to initiate a conversation.
If this woman shows even a strand of interest. Hmph, I will not let it be so easy for her.
However, a second passed. Then ten seconds. The awkward silence ensued as Jinli continued to examine the man in front of her, not saying a single word.
Lu Zhengya’s eyebrows twitched, Jinli had not hit on him as he’d expected. She only stared and stared till he couldn’t hold it in anymore. “What exactly are you looking at?”
“Looking at you,” Jinli replied nonchalantly. “You look very familiar.”
Lu Zhengya looked way better than the average man, it was very easy for Jinli to chit-chat with him.
Hearing those words. shock crashed over Lu Zhengya. His veins erupted on his forehead, and his smile became increasingly forced.
She stared at me for so long and she couldn’t recognise me?
“Haha!” He snorted coldly, “Just familiar? Miss Jinli is actually deeply carved into my memory!” His face dropped to pitch-black, his eyes suddenly turned sinister. In that instant, his charm disappeared, leaving a disturbing aura in its place. Should another other girl see this man, they would have been scared witless. Yet, this sight only served as Jinli’s eureka moment.
That face! A spitting image of the intoxicated, desperate man who crashed onto me! No wonder he looked so familiar.
“Ah! So you are that guy!” When it finally clicked for her, Jinli sighed in relief.
“Have you finally remembered?” Lu Zhengya asked bluntly.
Jinli nodded, “Yes, I remembered.”
That’s all?
Her unexpected indifference took Lu Zhengya by surprise. Lowering his voice, he interrogated, “Don’t you have anything else to say?”
