According to the Director’s plans, the host was to ask some sensitive questions to create hot topics for discussions. Questions regarding involvement with Lu Qingyuan and her views on it were bound to be a crowd favourite. Yet, when they saw the little Goddess propped up elegantly by the chair, all quiet and beautiful, they could not bring themselves to ask such insensitive and toxic questions. In the presence of Jinli, even the accompanying host could not help but soften her tone.
“Hi, Jinli! How do you feel about being on << Survival on the Inhabited Island >>? Have you watched us before? Nervous?”
Pausing for a while, she thought about it, and replied blankly, “Are, are we recording already?”
Taken aback, the conversation broke for a short while. With a small grin, the host nodded, “Yup, we have begun the filming. The interview will be uploaded onto the Weibo and the platform of the show in real-time.”
“Ah, I see. “Gently scratching her temples, she muttered, “Phew, luckily I decided to put on some makeup before I left. Or else, the audience would not be able to see the pretty me…”
The host went speechless.
Wouldn’t most people keep that to themselves?
Luckily, Jinli curbed the awkwardness before it proliferated, and answered in all seriousness, “I’m super happy about being on << Survival on the Inhabited Island >>. As for the question of me watching…”
She blinked earnestly at the host, and broke into a dazzling smile, “I think there aren’t many people that have not watched this blockbuster hit, right?”
At that moment, the host felt as if Jinli had stolen a part of his soul. That single blink, and that instant she smiled, he finally understood how Bai Jinli had survived in this industry despite carrying a heap of scandals with her. If it was any other artiste, they would have been buried, forgotten and even “fossilised”. Yet, at this current moment, the scandal-mired Jinli was being interviewed on the national top reality show, << Survival on the Inhabited Island >>. With just that single smile, the host had the sudden urge to pull out everything he owned, just to let Jinli smile at him once more.
What a misguided and fatuous thought!
In his mind, he silently dissed himself. After all, a man who had already lived for numerous decades, not to mention one who had been in the presence of countless handsome lads and pretty ladies, had no excuse for losing his calm so easily just because Jinli was slightly prettier!
During his mental lecture, Jinli continued, “I’m not exactly nervous… More curious as to what will come up during the missions.”
A safe and politically correct model answer.
Following the unalarming answer were general questions about her hobbies, likes and dislikes etc.. all of it simply cliche and uninteresting. A few moments later, the interview wrapped up without another hitch.
As the car wobbled along the journey, Jinli stared wistfully at the passing scenes. Soon, she was bored out of her wits.
Her eyes got heavier and heavier. Finally, she could not hold them up any further. “Can I nap for a bit?”
That question took the host by shock. He could only nod, his face flushed with hesitation and confusion.
Wow, I didn’t think she could hold herself together so well. How can she sleep in a time like this? Doesn’t she get nervous?
Little did he know, Jinli had no clue how the emotion commonly known as anxiety felt. As the host stared on, satisfaction had sprouted on Jinli’s rosy cheeks as she inspected herself in her handy hand mirror.
As beautiful as ever! What a perfect little Goddess I am! Bet I’m stunning even when I’m asleep.
Pleased with herself, she returned her mirror to her bag and got comfortable leaning against the vehicle. Within seconds, she was off to dreamland.
Warm sunshine seeped in through the narrow gap opened in the windows and caressed the soft, glossy skin of the sleeping girl.
The golden sun rays painted a picture-perfect scene as they whispered a gentle “Good Night” to the peacefully resting Goddess.
