Chapter 6: A Definite Death

About 15 minutes later, Tang Ning had changed into a monk’s clothing. She had a complicated expression when she touched her hairless scalp. She was never bald even in her previous life, but who knew that to keep herself alive, she would have to shave her head.
Tang Ning wrapped the hair and her old clothes together. She held them in her arms before proceeding towards the kitchen from the meditation room.
She shoved the things in her arms into the stove, and then used charcoal to cover her face and body with black soot, concealing the marks on her body left by the rat bites. She also drew herself thicker eyebrows to hide her identity before returning to the meditation room.
Under the moonlight, the Shadow Mercs outside the monastery were already moving into two groups. One group guarded outside the monastery, while the other sneaked inside to search.
In order not to alarm the monks inside the monastery, they could only search secretly. However, they felt that it would not be difficult for them to find a young girl in this monastery.
However, they didn’t expect they would be unable to find Tang Ning after searching the entire monastery once.
“What’s going on? Wasn’t she hiding in this monastery?” The leader among them whispered to the person beside him.
“Her wet footsteps brought us here, so she must have come here. But since we were unable to find her, could it be that she has escaped from the monastery?” Another Shadow Mercs asked softly.
“Escaped again? Where can she escape to? Or perhaps she’s still in the monastery?” The leader said with a frown.
“How about killing everyone in this monastery?” One of them suggested.
After listening to this suggestion, the leader sucked in a deep breath and said gloomily, “No. Just start a fire in the monastery and order our men to continue looking out. If she really is in the monastery, she would not be able to continue hiding once the monastery is set on fire.”
The eyes of the person beside the leader brightened, and he immediately responded, “Understood, I will relay the order immediately!”
The leader waved his hand, and the men behind him scattered quickly. Not long after, a fire began burning in the monastery. Within a few seconds, all the monks woke up with a shock. The monks could not wear their clothes on time, and they ran out of their rooms, shouting. “This is not good! Fire! Extinguish the fire quickly!”
In the meditation room, Tang Ning wanted to go out when she heard someone shouting about a fire. However, when she peeped through the slits of doors, she saw none of the monks outside were neatly dressed. Some were half-naked while others were still in their undergarments.
She looked down and knew that she would be signing her death wish if she was to go out just like that.
At that moment, she took off the outer garment and looked at her flat chest before resolutely running out. She saw the blazing fire brightening the night sky and cursed in her heart before starting to shout, “Fire, fire! Come and put out the fire quickly…”
As her sentence ended, she swiftly joined the other monks in putting out the fire, rushing towards the fire carrying buckets of water in her hands.
Even when the monks in the monastery were frantically trying to put out the fire using water and the fire brightened the night sky making it look like it was daytime, the Shadow Mercs hiding in the dark were still looking out, trying to find the figure who might run out from anywhere.
However, even when they were on a look-out for so long that even a substantial part of the monastery was already set ablaze and up in flames, they still couldn’t spot Tang Ning.
“Could she have already died in the fire? Or did she escape?” One of the Shadow Mercs whispered nervously. He thought for a while before continuing. “She was bitten by over a hundred rats and was tortured badly during her journey. I guess even if she hasn’t died, she probably can only live for a few more days.”
