Chapter 295: An Anonymous Hero
The landing area was lit up like noon. Almost a hundred cops and about two hundred passengers had gathered here while the night wind blew in from Malacca. Everyone’s attention also focused on Meng Fan. Maybe they stared at him because he didn’t give the apple he had to the little girl who was crying. He must really like to eat.
But in the eyes of these policemen and passengers, Meng Fan wasn’t just a foodie to them, but someone really magical.
Everything that just happened felt too much like a movie.
The hijacked hostage retaliated, taking down three hijackers!
It was magical and simply astounding!
The process was unbelievable.
How did this young guy lift up a grown person?
What did he use to hit one hijacker’s hand and eyes? Did he use a secret weapon? Chinese Kung Fu?
How did he use an apple to knock a hijacker to the ground? It didn’t make sense, but it looked amazing, making one feel so vindicated.
The young man’s power, courage, reaction, judgement, and wisdom were all unbelievable. He managed to foil a plane hijacking all on his own!
The heart-warming thing he did at the end was very touching.
The way he comforted the little girl could only be described as: Real men can be tender.
The scene was very heartfelt.
While everyone felt the whole thing was a little odd, no one could quite put a finger on why things seemed different.
Crunch.
Meng Fan kept eating the super-hard apple in big bites, as if this was the only way to ease his complex emotions.
Whew, so this is done.
The process was different from how he imagined it, but the results were even better than he expected. He didn’t die, nor did anyone else.
Clap, clap, clap.
Some people suddenly started clapping, until everyone joined in, celebrating their new lease in life. They also applauded to express their respect and gratitude to Meng Fan.
Most of the police, other than a few auxiliary officers, didn’t clap, but they did salute Meng Fan with their eyes.
Now was the time to face pragmatic problems.
“All passengers.”
One of the police officers came forward. He had stripes on his shoulders and wore a serious expression. “The flight is temporarily cancelled. We have set up a lounge for all of you. We will try to give everyone an answer you’re happy with as soon as possible.”
He then bowed deeply. Meanwhile, the police divided the two hundred or so passengers into three shuttles and sent them to the lounge.
The airport needed to investigate this matter, which required all the passengers’ cooperation in eliminating all potential danger.
The recovering passengers weren’t all happy about the arrangement, but they understood there was no way the regular flight would resume without delay.
They didn’t know that all flights at this airport were delayed. Of course, the airport didn’t announce that there was a hijacking; they used the weather as an excuse for the delayed departures.
They needed to screen all the planes!
After the passengers were taken away, all the crew members were taken away too to a special lounge.
…
“Why doesn’t my phone have a signal?”
“Mine, too!”
After the passengers arrived at their lounge, everyone soon realized that their cell phones were not working.
The airport employees reacted quickly, they explained that before the incident was investigated, they shouldn’t leak any information to the outside world to cause issues. They implied that some of the hijackers might still be at the airport.
The airport’s explanation didn’t satisfy the passengers, who felt the airport was trying to lock down information to do their public relations spin. The passengers, fresh from their ordeal, were very angry about what had happened.
Soon, the airport announced that an explanation would be given to everyone in one hour, which seemed to appease the passengers.
During this time, a few passengers were taken away for interviews. They returned very quickly. This group included Meng Fan, the elderly man who was taken hostage, and En’en’s family.
One hour later, the airport, as promised, gathered every passenger into a large conference room to give the incident report.
Thanks to Minako Sakurai’s tip, the disassembled weapons in the front freight area, the loading footage from the freight area, and crew members involved in the hijacking were all found. Since Meng Fan managed to control all the hijackers, the investigation became much easier.
The airport was relatively direct. They classified the incident as an attempted hijacking. However, they didn’t tell the passengers about the disassembled weapons in the freight area.
“The airport has arranged a charter flight for everyone to go to Kyoto. Everyone can board the plane after an hour and half from now. If anyone needs to cancel or change their flight, we will have our staff help you. The airport will reimburse you for your loss of time and emotional distress via double the amount of airfare, in addition…”
“Regarding the three hostaged passengers, we will offer additional compensation.”
“We will reward Mr. M for his courageous action. Mr. M will receive free services for life at this airport, as well as free flights for life from the airline, and a cash reward.”
All the passengers clapped at the news.
Everyone who was sitting down in front also stood up to express apologies at the passengers.
“Finally,” The airport spokesperson said, “The airport will inform the public about this incident. We will host a press conference soon. We will not embargo any information. We welcome and need the monitoring from the public. However, we do ask you to keep one thing confidential.”
There was no way this incident could be kept secret. First, the sudden delays airport-wide was strange; second, all the police activity in the landing area was probably already seen by many people; and third, none of the passengers at the airport had an obligation to keep the incident confidential. They could even file more claims for responsibility.
Passengers became restless at the news of keeping something confidential.
The airport spokesperson pointed at Meng Fan, who sat in the front row, “Mr. M’s heroic action should be known to everyone, but due to the terrorism-related nature of this incident, concerns for Mr. M’s safety, and after consulting Mr. M’s own opinions, we hope everyone can sign a confidentiality agreement to promise never to share the involvement of Mr. M.”
The passengers stopped being disgruntled after they heard the reasoning; they all signed the confidentiality agreement.
What was the point of the agreement?
If something happened to Meng Fan, and they found out who leaked the information, they could pursue legal action against the person.
While everyone knew this was good for Meng Fan’s personal safety, they still wished they could talk about it. Not only couldn’t they brag, this hero was anonymous!
