Ch 28 – Little fellow is a big shot
In the afternoon, Luo Lin attended his classes like a well-behaved student.
Chi Shi was also in class but he was seated in the front row. During the lesson, he was silent and lifeless. It was as though he was a dog that just got neutered. Luo Lin couldn’t tell what that fellow was thinking about.
An afternoon passed in the blink of an eye, Luo Lin spoke to Lan Lan before he left school.
He made a trip over to the internet cafe to check on the progress of the renovation. At this time, Qin Wanshu and Song Meiyuan had already left so he had to take the bus.
Even though Luo Lin was the focus of attention at One High, he took the same bus as everyone else. He paid the bus fare then held the handle with one hand, and the other in his pocket. He casually squeezed in with the passengers without paying any heed to the gazes directed at him.
“Ring ring…”
At this time, Luo Lin’s cellphone rang.
When he took a look, it was from an unknown number.
After some thought, he picked it up: “Hello, who is this?”
“Young Master Luo, you’re so forgetful that you forgot about me, Da Qiang?”
Luo Lin chuckled: “Oh, it’s Brother Da Qiang, what’s the matter?”
“T-that… Aren’t I dealing with the stubborn household owners for Young Master Luo? I have a piece of good news, the largest family which was the hardest to handle had been settled by me.”
Luo Lin knew he has something else to add so he asked: “And?”
Da Qiang laughed: “Young Master is smart indeed, there’s also a piece of bad news… a group of Night Market Street locals who had lived there for over 20 odd years, have formed an alliance consisting of 20 over families that were adamant on not selling their houses.”
“You didn’t touch them right?”
Da Qiang understood his meaning and immediately replied: “Rest assured, I have propriety. If the locals aren’t pleased, it will incur the anger of many which will cause a greater resistance to the plans of development.”
“I have never laid a single finger on these 20 over families. I only scared them with a few words.”
Luo Lin felt assured after hearing his words, and it just happened that the bus is nearing the next station: “Next stop, Night Market Street, South Entrance…”
“Brother Da Qiang, are you at the Moonlight Bar? Mhm, alright, I’ll go look for you. Let’s discuss this matter in person.” After saying that, Luo Lin hung up.
Soon, the bus stopped at the south entrance. Luo Lin got off the bus and in less than 2 minutes, he had arrived at the Moonlight Bar.
As it wasn’t 7 PM, the bar had not yet opened for business. The tables and chairs were still unarranged, and the janitors were working hard.
When Luo Lin stepped into the bar, he noticed Da Qiang who was sitting at the bar counter.
Da Qiang wasn’t alone, beside him sat a well-built man with a crewcut hairstyle. The two of them seemed to be discussing something with great interest and when they reached an exciting part, they bumped glasses and chugged down their wine.
“Brother Da Qiang, you’re so free huh!”
Luo Lin greeted warmly as he walked up to them.
Brother Da Qiang turned around and waved: “Young Master Luo you’re here, hurry hurry, come and take a seat. Let me introduce to you a new friend.” Saying that, he beckoned at the bartender: “Bring us a few bottles of Budweiser!”
After Luo Lin took a seat, he took a closer look at the appearance of the well-built man with a crew cut hairstyle.
He had thick black brows, a pair of high-spirited eyes, and a tall nose framed by a square face. His well-built stature exuded a heroic aura.
“Allow me to introduce you, this is the person who governs the south street, His nickname is Wolfdog.”
“In the past, both of us mixed with Brother Baldie, but because of some matters, he was placed behind bars for two years. After his release, Wolfdog switched turfs, and now, he’s more or less a rather powerful character.” Brother Da Qiang raised his glass.
Wolfdog hurriedly shook his hand: “Brother Da Qiang, you’re praising me too much. In the beginning, I started mixing with you first.”
Luo Lin broke into a sudden realization.
‘Ah, this is the real person. So this is the Wolfdog of the South Street, the one who has contradictions with Brother Dragon.’
‘Haha, Zhengzhou City is so small.’
When he observed Wolfdog’s appearance and manner of speech, there was no hint of arrogance as mentioned in the rumors. Wolfdog seemed like an honest man, and he was rather young, he had yet to turn 30.
Brother Da Qiang and Wolfdog have close relations and are used to joking with one another. However, Wolfdog was right, Brother Da Qiang was the one who brought him up and Wolfdog became quite famous in Night Market Street.
However one day, he took revenge for a brother and overdid it which was why he was thrown into prison for 2 years.
Luo Lin approached Wolfdog and shook his hand, “I have heard a lot about Brother Wolfdog a long time ago, but meeting you is better than hearing about you.”
“Haha!” Brother Da Qiang mediated happily as he held Luo Lin’s shoulder, “Ah Yao, this is Young Master Luo who I have mentioned to you previously.”
“The young master, and next heir of Zhengzhou City leading enterprise Luo Enterprise. You can’t treat him as the usual Rich second generation, my assessment of him is just 2 words- true man.”
“Meeting you is better than hearing about you, should be said by me.” Wolfdog walked up to bump glasses with Luo Lin, “You’re the person who shot to popularity today in One High. Alright, you’re pretty good, the things you did today is very interesting.”
“You’re young, but you have the means. Don’t call me Brother Wolfdog, this name sounds bad, I don’t even like my nickname, just call me Ah Yao.”
Luo Lin saw Wolfdog’s straightforwardness and thought, ‘Brother Da Qiang must have done a lot of work beforehand to have this brother taking the initiative to befriend me. Sure, since we’re the same type of people, let’s just do it!’
“Sure, then I’ll just call this brother Ah Yao, cheers.”
Both of them were good at handling alcohol, they didn’t even blink once after drinking an entire bottle. They did it so effortlessly one would think they were drinking water.
Brother Da Qiang’s eyes narrowed as he smiled while looking at them, patting his hands twice to show his joy.
Society was just like this. One must meet more people, and make friends with many. Seniority nor hierarchy does not play any part in it. Who knows, perhaps this friendship might be of help one day.
Whether it’s genuine or not, as long as the other party possesses a good character and both parties click, then they are worth the time. Friends weren’t made through interactions but fights.
Wolfdog was the first to know about the things Luo Lin did today. At that time, he wished to meet the little fellow who was a 3rd-year high schooler.
That fart Brother Dragon, he became so arrogant after he accepted a few followers from One High. These followers would sway into Wolfdog’s territory every few days acting arrogantly.
Wolfdog had long since thought of Brother Dragon as an eyesore. He would love to rush over from the south street, to devour the turf opposite of One High.
Unfortunately, Wolfdog received news that he accepted a follower whose name was Chi Shi, and that guy’s dad works as the Deputy Mayor.
Since then, Wolfdog’s plans of fighting with Brother Dragon were scrapped, mainly because he knows of the other party’s shrewdness. If he ever uses Chi Shi as a weapon, and if Wolfdog wounded the Deputy Mayor’s son, then a lot of troubles would ensue.
However, Luo Lin who came out of nowhere used his means to throw 7 of Brother Dragon’s followers into prison. When Brother Dragon was enraged, he gave out pledges of alliances to instigate Chi Shi into fighting Luo Lin. In the end, Luo Lin brought 30 over brothers of the “Black Glove” to scare them away like a bunch of drenched dogs.
There were no movements from Brother Dragon this afternoon, maybe this time, he truly became fearful of Luo Lin who was merely a high schooler.
‘A highschool student?’
‘A boy who isn’t even 18?’
Thinking of this, Wolfdog smiled. The phrase “hero emerges from a youngster” was not at all fake.
If Wolfdog stood in Luo Lin’s shoes, even with more than a decade of experience, he wouldn’t be able to handle things as beautifully as Luo Lin.
He had not touched a single hair on Chi Shi from beginning to end, but he managed to show his prestige and got payback. Now, his name was spread like wildfire amongst the students.
Before he met Luo Lin, Wolfdog still had a tinge of disbelief, but the moment he laid eyes on this youngster, he knew that a new evildoer was about to rise.
This little fellow who was yet 18, seemed so profound like he was a black hole.
From beginning to end, even Wolfdog who had nearly 30 years of experience, couldn’t make out the youngster’s thoughts.
Brother Da Qiang had sharp eyes, before this meeting, he told Wolfdog a few words: “This Luo Lin has inherited his father’s and his uncle’s skills. He has the vision of a businessman, and the far-sighted mind of a leader, the most important thing is that he was full of bad ideas.”
“However, for his brothers, it can only be described in one word- loyal. If possible, you could befriend him. Do not show any arrogance or you will have a “happy” life in the future.”
These words expressed one meaning: ‘This Luo Lin has a promising future.’
…
“Brother, you have completely angered Brother Dragon, are you not afraid that he’ll be ruthless to you?” Wolfdog placed the empty glass on the counter, he then wiped away the stain on his mouth and probed.
Luo Lin smiled: “He should be ruthless, or else what are the police for?”
Wolfdog grasped his meaning, and glanced at Brother Da Qiang, his meaning was: ‘Indeed, this little brother does have many bad ideas.’
Casually drinking a few bottles, Luo Lin and Wolfdog were considered as acquaintances now. Brother Da Qiang saw that it was time and began speaking: “Young Master Luo, I suggest that you talk to your father to let us use the company’s name. Those households were big families, the oldest is at least 80 years old, and the youngest is still wearing diapers, we can’t touch them nor can we talk them through.”
“If we work in the name of Luo Enterprise Development Department, then it would be more legitimate. So that when we discuss matters with them, it would seem more believable right?”
“I have mixed in Night Market Street for so many years, and even I have feelings for this place let alone those households who have lived here for 20 over years. Other people just want fair compensation and not trouble. If we give them open conditions, that means there is room for negotiation, you see, when is it possible to use the name of the company?”
Luo Lin froze, he had never seen Brother Da Qiang talking in such a proper manner, like a good old man.
After a short pause, Luo Lin understood what was going on: “I understand, Brother Da Qiang, you wish to earn extra income.”
Brother Da Qiang let out ‘hehe’ sounding waves of laughter: “The stubborn households had been settled, so shouldn’t Brother Da Qiang get some credit? There are so many brothers under me who helped, so we should give them a little something right?”
Luo Lin smiled: “Didn’t I promise to give you a shopfront?”
Brother Da Qiang scratched his head feeling a little embarrassed.
Luo Lin understood what he meant and thought that establishing a development department might not be a bad idea.
Even if development started at a later date, with Brother Da Qiang supervising these brothers, the ones with crooked thoughts wouldn’t dare cause any troubles.
After he pondered for a short while, Luo Lin raised his bottle: “Sure, since you’ve been taking care of me, I’ll go talk to my father. Come on Ah Yao, let us drink.”
“Cheers!”
