Chapter 79: Broken Heart
Tan Lin’s tears bring Ko Chen back to his childhood in a trance. Due to the strictness of his family, his childhood was filled with endless classes which occupied all his time and almost suffocated him. Ko Chen who got used to being alone gradually got used to silence, burying all his thoughts in his heart because every one around him just showed their great respect instead of talking to him since he was the little master in this family.
It was at this time that Tan Lin appeared. Like the sun in the sky, the little girl was shining everyday. She always followed Ko Chen like his little tail, calling him “Chen” with a sweet voice. Ko Chen can hardly forget the little girl with innocent smiles in his memory. However, squinting at the woman in front of him, he fails to match her with the little girl. It’s maybe because the time takes away too many things, including Tan Lin’s innocence as well as his health.
Tan Lin’s tears flash in her eyes, as Ko Chen’s answer doesn’t come for a long time. Perhaps due to the tears, her fierce temperament is weakened and even a bit delicacy is added. With a sigh, he stands up and walks around the table to sit down beside Tan Lin with an arm holding her shoulder, “Don’t cry.” With it, however, Tan Lin bursts into cries, and tears suddenly well up, running down from her cheeks. Tan Lin turns around to plunge herself at Ko Chen and weeps silently.
Ko Chen can feel that the chest part of his shirt is wet immediately. It’s impossible for him not to have feelings for her since she is his little sister accompanying him since childhood afterwards. But for him, she can only be a sister and no more. And Ko Chen can’t give what Tan Lin wants. Ko Chen’s answer doesn’t come even when Tan Lin raises her head with red eyes.
Looking at Ko Chen, she insists on asking for an answer. With a hoarse voice, she asks, “Do you love her?” The person she refers to is obviously Yu Fei. He shakes his head slowly after pausing a few seconds, which, however, isn’t believed by Tan Lin who asks again. But his answer is the same.
Nevertheless, it seems that Tan Lin doesn’t want to let it go at that. Much as Ko Chen is reluctant to answer the question, he speaks first, “I married her just out of business instead of love. You don’t have to think too much about that.” She bites her lips with her eyes twinkling as if to confirm his words. Ko Chen gives a nod and finally her question is over.
On the other side, Yu Fei and Gu Yi leave the restaurant. Yu Fei collapses the moment she gets on the car. She bursts into tears with her hands holding her belly as if that can comfort her a little, and indeed it is only the baby that can comfort Yu Fei now. Her reaction also distresses Gu Yi who feels much bitterer when thinking that she is crying for another man. Still he leans forward to embrace Yu Fei tightly.
Yu Fei’s weeping fades away after quite a while. Wiping tears on her face, she finds their close gesture so embarrassing. And she apologizes in a hoarse voice, “I just lost my mind. Sorry.” “You little fool.” With an affectionate smile he reaches out his hands to grope her head. Absorbed in the grief that Ko Chen brought her, Yu Fei doesn’t care their close gesture and just shakes her head, looking outside through the window with no more words.
The driver is observing them all the time. Seeing neither of them speaks, he opens his mouth cautiously, “President Gu, where are we going now?” Gu Yi glances at Yu Fei who is still looking outside and looks like everything is fine, “Please go home.” When his words are delivered, Yu Fei turns back and says, “Please take me to my house first.” It is sure that Gu Yi won’t let her go home alone as she is in such a mood. He looks at her worriedly, “Well, to my house first. At least I can take care of you.”
Yu Fei refuses immediately. If they are just friends, she can accept his offer, but now that Gu Yi has feelings for her, she doesn’t feel free to live in his house. Forcing a smile to disguise her grief, she insists, “I’m really fine alone.” Gu Yi stares at Yu Fei until she moves her sight away embarrassingly, and he opens his mouth slowly, “You don’t have to smile if you don’t want to. You don’t have to be strong when you are with me.” His words almost move her to tears again, which are finally held back by holding breath. Then seriousness takes place of her smile, “Gu Yi, thank you for your kindness, but I want to calm down alone.” Gu Yi can’t say more due to her determination and lets the driver send her home.
When she returns home, Yu Fei goes into her room straight. She lies on her back on the bed, staring at the ceiling bitterly. Tears held back in front of Gu Yi finally flood out, trickling down on the quilt. Her grieved wail echoes in the bedroom, and meanwhile Ko Chen’s hurtful words which echo in her ears like curses add more wounds to her broken heart.
Except for Ko Chen’s attitude, Yu Fei cares about the woman with him. She has never seen any woman with Ko Chen since they were married. For all her worries before marriage, Yu Fei trusted him when finding Ko Chen appeared at home and in the company regularly after they got married. But now there is such a beautiful woman beside him, moreover, his attitude hints his care for this woman.
The woman’s defiant smile is engraved in Yu Fei’s mind and even a fool can see what the woman wants from Ko Chen. What are these? At first it’s Yu Yu, and now an unknown woman. Yu Fei miserably covers her eyes with her arms. It seems that their marriage is really coming to the end.
