An Moer was aware that he had unconsciously believed his grandmother’s warnings.
It didn’t mean that he didn’t believe Lai En. However, he was aware that the difference between a mermaid and a human was obstructing their love, and it wasn’t limited to their appearance.
There was also the incompatibility of land and ocean.
Besides, he was the one who had been indulging in this one-sided love. That included his fondness for her at the start and the sudden kiss later. He knew that it meant his strong and suffocating love for her. But what about her?
She hadn’t known anything.
More than a month later, the young prince set sail once again.
Yu Chu sent away her servants and waited for the little mermaid to appear. When he did, she flashed a smile and waved at him. “Come to me! I brought you many fruits and cakes! I’m sure you’ll like them.”
The mermaid watched her as his icy blue hair trailed along with the waves. Seconds later, he leapt on board nimbly. The girl informed him happily,
“I’ve instructed the servants not to come near me today. I brought toys and storybooks. I can read you a story. Do you want to listen to legends or stories about land?”
An Moer gazed at her with his eyes gleaming darkly.
Yu Chu raised her head to glance at him when the mermaid didn’t reply.
What surprised her was that the beautiful young man didn’t appear to be interested. Instead he bit his lip until there were marks on it. Hesitantly, he raised his head and called softly, “Lai En…”
His voice could soften a heart and Yu Chu composed herself before glancing at him. “Huh?”
He unconsciously bit his rosy lips out of habit, as he paused and watched her.
“Do you think that fish tails… are weird?”
The golden-haired girl was startled and didn’t reply immediately. Instead, she fell deep in thought.
An Moer’s heart was lifted instantly.
His eyes gleamed and his face was pale. His white and neat teeth were clamped tightly on his lip.
The girl asked instead, “Can I touch it?”
Touch… Touch it?
His beautiful eyes widened and the little mermaid stared at her in surprise. His long eyelashes shuddered a little and he took some time before nodding lightly.
The girl extended her hand and touched his shiny tail cautiously with her fingers. The man’s exquisite face blushed and he averted his face shyly. He could hear this heart pounding furiously against his chest.
Yu Chu retracted her hand. She crinkled her eyes and said, “No, I like it very much.”
She liked it…
The young man paused and his face flushed instantly. His fair ears were red too and he bit his lip, at a loss for words.
She was telling the truth.
A mermaid could distinguish between a lie and the truth.
He could clearly feel how heartfelt her words were and there wasn’t any trace of impurity.
An Moer felt that his ears had turned hot.
He glanced at the girl as he blushed.
Telling a mermaid that she liked his tail had the same implied meaning as when a human expressed his or her liking for another party’s legs… The words itself were rather teasing and could make one blush.
The girl on the other hand, appeared stern and earnest.
An Moer was well aware that she hadn’t meant anything by it. He puffed up his cheeks helplessly.
He quipped, “I want to listen to Lai En’s story.”
His soft voice rang in Yu Chu’s ears and she noticed the man’s blushing face. She couldn’t help but stroke his head with a smile. “Sure.”
