She pressed her cap against her head and lowered her head to look at the order again. She then showed it to him.
“It’s the correct address.”
There was an extended awning to block the sunlight where the man stood. The girl, however, was exposed to the relentless sun. Tiny beads of perspiration were gathering on the tip of her nose. Her outstretched hand was also red with sunburns.
As the girl stretched her hand, she stepped closer to Su Yanbai. He unconsciously furrowed his eyebrows as he caught whiff of some smell. He glanced at the number on the order form and whipped out his phone to dial a number. He gripped his phone with his long fair fingers as he gazed into a pair of clear eyes. The girl was gazing quietly at him as beads of perspiration rolled down her face.
The sunlight shone on her ponytail, reflecting a faint golden glow.
Out of courtesy, he moved sideways and said softly, “The sun is too strong. Come rest in the shade.”
The girl was slightly taken aback before she quietly replied with a thank you. She climbed up a step and stood next to him.
She didn’t look at him. Instead she gazed right ahead. The side of her face, which was drenched in perspiration, made her look serene.
The call went through and a voice answered, “Oh, Brother Su! I forgot to tell you that the company that I’m interning at doesn’t allow us to order food. I’ll leave the food at your place first and I’ll collect it later.”
Su Yanbai was speechless.
At last, he agreed and replied to his friend softly. He received the food from the girl. “Sorry, my friend didn’t inform me in advance. Did I hold you up?”
His fingertips accidentally brushed against the girl’s hand and made him pause. However, the girl retracted her hand swiftly the next moment. She nodded politely and replied, “You’re too polite.”
After that, she turned around to climb down the steps. Her slender figure was exposed to the sunlight once more and her ponytail swayed slightly as she walked away.
She left.
It was different from how she had stared blankly at him the first time they met. This time, she didn’t even turn her head to look back.
The man stood for a while before he pressed his thin lips together and turned around. He picked up the book that he was reading and for an unknown reason, he felt rather impatient. It seemed as though he had done something wrong. Was he too rude? The young man’s lips, which resembled flower petals, were pressed together.
However, as he mulled it over, he came to the conclusion that he hadn’t been rude. He had always been polite yet distant to strangers. In the past, he had never felt that he had done anything wrong.
Indeed… there wasn’t anything wrong.
However, when the other party behaved exactly like he wished, by being polite and distant, incredibly, he had felt annoyed.
What should he do…
The beautiful young man pressed his lips together as his pitch black eyes stared at the book intently. His long eyelashes covered the emotions in his eyes. With a calm expression, he thought quietly in his heart.
If not, I could apologize to her the next time…
As the thought crossed his mind, the man furrowed his exquisite eyebrows as he stared at the words on the page.
He had never thought of apologizing to anyone before.
Besides, what had he done wrong?
Something must have bewitched him…
He knitted his eyebrows tightly and pressed his lips together.
Over the next few days, the girl came to deliver the food at the same time. Every time, she would smile brightly at him with a pair of clear twinkling eyes shaped prettily like crescents. Her voice rang clearly as she announced, “Your food is here.”
It was a kind and polite smile.
After delivering the food, she would bow politely to him and leave without turning her head.
The young man gazed impassively at the food with a strange emotion streaking past in his beautiful eyes.
