954 No Reason to Cling to Him
Yang Ming was taken aback by Meng Ling’s response. “How else do you expect to get your hand treated?” he asked before he could stop himself. “Are you forgetting that the drug is still being developed?”
Thanks to the erroneous data that Yao Ran had provided earlier, the research operations had been derailed. Even now, he was hard-pressed to coax the girl into giving him the correct information they needed. He knew he was about to succeed, too, but Meng Ling just had to burst his bubble.
Meng Ling raised her hand and waved it in front of his face. “You mean this hand? Sorry to disappoint you, but it’s already been cured. In fact, it’s in better shape than before. Isn’t it great? If your research succeeds, then both of our families would benefit. But if not… Well, my family and I wouldn’t lose much sleep over it.”
She had done much reflection since her recovery, and she came to realize that it was her disability that had pushed her into doing foolish things. At the end of the day, she was still the precious daughter of the prestigious Meng family. How could she have stooped so low?
The Yang family was indeed wealthy, Meng Ling had to give them that, but it wasn’t as if she had no other options. There were tons of other prominent families who would be willing to hoist their young sons up to marry into the Meng family. Why should she cling to Chen Ming? It was just that he was constantly entangled with Yao Ran. Meng Ling hated to lose to the other girl, regardless of the circumstances.
Yao Ran’s eyes widened in shock. She couldn’t be imagining this, right? Was Meng Ling’s hand really cured?
“Who treated your hand?” she cried out anxiously.
Meng Ling raised her chin and shot Yao Ran a haughty look. “Why are you so worked up? Didn’t you say that your leg has already healed a while ago? Why are you so concerned about the doctor who cured me? Or perhaps… Is your leg not fully healed at all?”
Yao Ran had initially refused the test drugs that had been offered to her, waiting instead for the latest prototype to be finished. She had taken that one and had even stolen pertinent data relating to the drug. If it had indeed worked as intended, surely, she wouldn’t be so excited about the idea of Meng Ling’s hand being fully recovered.
That meant that Yao Ran’s current condition was the same one that Meng Ling had suffered before Yao Tang came along. The injured limb might appear fine and recovered, but in reality, every single movement was a feat of pain and inconvenience. This presumption might also be supported by the fact that Yao Ran had never danced again since her injury.
“Of course, I’m fully healed!” Yao Ran snapped almost immediately.
Then, as if realizing her sudden outburst, she added, “I was just surprised, is all. After all, you’ve been through several treatments over the years, and even enlisted the help of various experts, yet your injury never got better.”
She cast a snide glance at Yao Tang. “You seem to be close with my sister, Miss Meng. By any chance, was she the one who introduced you to the doctor who finally cured your hand?”
Yao Ran had learned the hard way that Yao Tang had many secrets and connections no one else could have even imagined. It wouldn’t be a long shot if she had connected Meng Ling to some genius doctor. And if that was the case, then Yao Ran naturally wanted that doctor to examine her, too.
Because, no matter how hard she denied it, the truth of the matter was that her leg had not recovered yet.
Meng Ling’s lips slowly stretched into a knowing smile. She was certain that she had guessed right.
She linked arms with Yao Tang, acting all familiar and affectionate. “What does my recovery have to do with Sister Tang? The reason why I’m close to her is that I know what she is truly like. She is a kind and generous person, unlike some people, who hide behind pretty clothes and their parents’ names to seem respectable to the public.”
Everyone understood her meaning. Meng Ling clearly looked down on Yao Ran.
Yao Ran promptly teared up, and she turned her big, wet eyes to Yang Ming. “Maybe I shouldn’t have come, Brother. I’ll take my leave now.”
She made to walk away, but Meng Ling quickly stopped her. “Oh, are you leaving because of me? Why? And please don’t tell me you actually feel ashamed. Weren’t you showing off my supposed fiancé on your WeChat Moments?”
Yang Ming’s eyes flashed at what he had just heard. He whipped out his phone and clicked on Yao Ran’s profile. Sure enough, he couldn’t find any posts that included him.
So, she had deliberately censored him from most of her posts.
The shift in his expression did not escape Meng Ling, and the girl pounced on the chance to stir the pot. Weaponizing words to her advantage was nothing more than child’s play to her.
“What’s this, now?” she asked, sounding surprised. “Haven’t you seen her posts, Yang Ming? Ah, but how could it be? She’s all, Brother this, Brother that, but she blocked you on her WeChat Moments? Just what kind of dynamic do you two have? It’s so weird.”
