Chapter 13: We May Share a Room

“Kenneth, how can you do this? I’m your girlfriend now!” Lucy looked at him, feeling a little hurtful. Her facial muscles twitched when she saw those security guards beating the hell out of Kenneth.
While being pressed to the ground by a few security guards, Kenneth cried for help. “It’s okay. I don’t mind. You and he were a couple during college time, anyway. Hasn’t he been wanting to sleep with you? Grant him the wish for just one night; you are not going to lose anything. Help me, and I will buy you a Hermès tomorrow!”
Kenneth spared nothing to save himself.
Dignity was nothing. The important thing was to get out of this situation first.
Now that Ryan had the backing of this mysterious woman, Kenneth was afraid that he would be beaten to death for nothing.
Lucy stood by. When she heard Kenneth say he would buy a Hermès bag for her, her eyes lit up. “Don’t say this, Kenneth. My heart bleeds to see you being beaten. I will do anything for you.”
She turned to look at Ryan as soon as her voice trailed off. “Haven’t you been wanting to sleep with me, Ryan? I can satisfy you as long as you let Kenneth go. We can get a room immediately, and I’m all yours tonight with no regrets.”
Did Lucy really feel sorry for Kenneth?
Not in this lifetime.
Both Lucy and Kenneth knew very well why they were together; it was just a relationship of mutual convenience.
Lucy had agreed to help Kenneth only for a Hermès bag, which cost over a hundred thousand dollars.
The two security guards apprehending Kenneth were stunned at hearing that Lucy was Ryan’s ex-girlfriend. Even Tony was also at a loss, as the relationship between these people was complicated.
Since Lucy was Ryan’s ex-girlfriend, Tony hesitated now and looked at Ryan for instruction.
Ryan stood there with no expression on his face. After hearing what Lucy said, he quietly shook his head. “Forget it. Just teach them a lesson and let them go. I have suffered no losses. Anyway. I have an appointment with Ms. Kors to talk about paintings. Isn’t it, Ms. Kors?” He turned and quietly winked at Helene.
Helene got the message. Her face sank as she looked at Tony. “Mr. Salvage, you may take care of these people however you want. Shall we go now, Mr. Fletcher?”
She gestured with her hand to usher Ryan walking out of the door, leaving Simon and Kenneth lying and gasping on the ground.
Watching Ryan leaving, Simon and Kenneth looked at each other, both thinking to themselves. ‘At least Ryan knew when to stop. And he is just riding on someone’s coattails and will not be so lucky next time.’
After Tony saw Helene and Ryan out, he returned to the hotel lobby and shot a glare at both Simon and Kenneth. “Get the hell out of here! I will snap the legs of both of you if you two dare to look for trouble with Mr. Fletcher again!”
…
Helene sent Ryan to Lumi’s place, watching him enter the villa before she left.
In the living room of the villa, Lumi was sitting barefoot on the sofa while watching TV. When she saw Ryan come back, she smiled at him. “You are back!”
She had been in a good mood ever since the company’s cash deficit problem was solved. Wearing a purple tulle nightdress with her fair collarbone exposed, she looked hot.
“Yeah! I have got a gift for your grandma.” While speaking, Ryan took out a pair of earrings that he had obtained from Preston Parker, and handed it to Lumi.
Lumi took the earrings in her hand and glanced at them in puzzlement. The earrings were like the pair she had bought before, but she had no idea what material they were made of. “Where did you get these?”
“I went to see a friend whom I had helped before. He gave these earrings to me. They should be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, I guess?” He did not want to explain more, so he gave a perfunctory reply.
“We will have to make do with these.” Lumi sighed.
The money in her and Ryan’s hands was not enough to buy a decent gift. And the one that Ryan brought back looked similar in shape to the pair that Raymond had smashed. This pair of earrings would make a decent gift tomorrow.
“It is getting late. Go take a shower and sleep.” Lumi got to her feet, her face smitten. “I… will wait for you upstairs.”
‘What?’
Ryan was taken aback and turned to look at her in hesitation.
‘Waiting for me upstairs? What does she mean?’
Sensing Ryan’s stare, Lumi blushed even more and looked coy. “Don’t you overthink. What I mean is, we may share a room tonight with you sleeping on the floor. I will try to accept you. I’m sorry,” said Lumi with a coquettish tone.
The last part of the sentence—her apology—was sincere.
Ryan had been living in the Mears family for many years and later married Lumi. But Lumi was never friendly to him, nor did she regard Ryan as a family member. She never allowed Ryan to have any intimate moment with her, which she now realized was unfair to him.
Today in the bar, in the mall, Ryan had been so protective of her. He had even gotten help from his classmate to inject capital into her company. All these had pulled at her heartstrings. So she wanted to try to accept Ryan.
Letting Ryan go upstairs and share a room with her was the first step.
Ryan looked at Lumi’s blushed face, and he broke out in a smile. “Nevermind, Lumi. Maybe I should sleep downstairs.”
Lumi looked at Ryan, still sounding coy. “Hmph! Are you afraid that I will eat you or something? I have moved all your belongings upstairs. Go take a shower!”
Ryan was speechless for a while, thinking to himself that this woman was quick in actions. “All right.”
He took a shower, went upstairs, and slept.
Both of them felt awkward as they slept in the same room for the first time. But the night passed with nothing happening between them.
…
Early the next morning, the two cleaned up, and Lumi drove towards her grandma’s place.
It was her grandma’s birthday. She was set to get ridiculed by her family elders if she was late.
When the two arrived at the grandma’s house, Raymond, her second and third uncles, as well as other elders, were already there.
When Raymond saw Lumi and Ryan walking in, he spoke in a strange tone of voice. “Oh, isn’t this President Mears? Grandma, I heard that our President Mears bought you a pair of eight-hundred-thousand-dollar earrings yesterday. Lumi, why don’t you show us now?”
Raymond had seen with his own eyes that the earrings were broken. That pair of earrings was one of a kind in Saltband City. It was absolutely impossible for Lumi and Ryan to find the same earrings again.
To please Grandma, Raymond had been telling Grandma about Lumi buying the gift. He wanted to embarrass Lumi and Ryan later.
But Lumi ignored Raymond as she came in front of her grandma. “Grandma, happy birthday! I wish you good health and happiness to always stay with you.”
Grandma sitting in a chair, hissed. “Hmph! Lumi, Raymond told me you bought me a pair of emerald earrings. Could you show them to me? I happen to need a pair of earrings.”
