Chapter 23: You Have Gone Overboard This Time

The pile of gifts given by Allan was smashed to pieces by Ryan in the blink of an eye before the bodyguards standing next to it knew what happened.
Allan jumped up and down with anger. “Are you mad, Ryan? Do you have any idea how much those things are worth? At least thirty or forty million dollars! Y-Y-You smashed all of them like this? Bugger, you few idiots! What are you guys still waiting for? Beat him the hell up!”
When Allan saw no reaction from those bodyguards, he grabbed a plate from the table and smashed it into the head of one bodyguard.
Earlier on, thanks to Ryan, he had suffered a dislocated wrist before the bodyguards came in. So now, he wanted to get even with Ryan for that.
“Yes, Mr. Moore!”
Those bodyguards responded, and each took out their sticks to attack Ryan.
The relatives of the Mears family present saw the pile of debris and looked at each other.
‘Ryan has gone overboard this time!’
‘Can he afford to pay? It is about forty million dollars they are talking about!’
‘Does he really think he can do whatever he wants simply because he knew Preston Parker?’
‘Could Preston Parker pay for him a second time after the first?’
Allan’s bodyguards were attacking Ryan, but none of the Mears family members stopped them. Instead, they were all gloating over it and even secretly hoping that Allan’s bodyguards would beat Ryan to death.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
In less than ten seconds, and before everyone knew what happened, Allan’s four bodyguards had dropped motionless on the ground.
Ryan threw the stick in his hand to the ground and then dusted his hands as he looked at Allan. “Isn’t it just forty million dollars? I will pay. So you want to compare gifts, eh? Then let’s compare. My men will be here in a minute.”
‘Did Ryan prepare other gifts?’ It even shocked Lumi this time. ‘How many things has he kept from me?’
He had gotten her out of Lionel Ball’s hands, given out a pair of thirty-million-dollar star ruby earrings, and smashed so many valuable items—no ordinary man could have done that.
Allan looked at the bodyguards lying on the floor with a hint of shock in his eyes. “Don’t boast, Ryan. You have prepared other gifts? Show us. If your gifts are better than mine, I will eat a sock raw!”
“The way I see it; he is mostly talking big. If he could buy so many gifts, he would not have worried about the company’s thirty-million-dollar cash shortfall.”
“Exactly. Trash is trash. He doesn’t want to admit it.”
…
While everyone was still belittling Ryan, a Mears family guard reported in. “Mrs. Mears, there is a truck outside, the carrier says that it is a gift from Mr. Fletcher. Should we let them in?”
‘A truck?’
‘Ryan needed a truck to carry the gift?’
‘D*mn it! Really?’
Raymond and Allan’s hearts skipped a beat, their minds racing.
But thinking of who Ryan was, Allan immediately figured it out. ‘Ryan must be pretending; he is pretending.’
“Let the truck in. I would like to see what trickery you are trying to pull here. You couldn’t wait for me to expose you, eh?” Allan still did not believe that Ryan really had such huge financial resources.
If Ryan was really so rich, Lumi would not have to suck up to Lionel Ball and other men at the bar just to raise money for the company.
“What are you trying to pull here, Ryan?” Grandma frowned, trying hard not to get angry.
Today should have been a perfect plan, but Ryan had completely ruined it. Until now, Grandma still could find nothing wrong with Ryan.
Ryan let out a smile. “Nothing. Didn’t Mr. Moore say he wants to compare gifts? My gift has arrived. Let my men in.”
The security guard at the door looked at Grandma for instructions. Grandma waved. “Let them come in.”
A few minutes later, a big truck stopped at the entrance of the living room. Preston Parker’s bodyguards quickly unloaded a few large boxes, carried them into the living room, and opened them.
There was a two-meter-tall blood-red coral, Grande tête mince—a bronze sculpture by Alberto Giacomett, an emerald room divider, and other items.
They were all enormous pieces, twice as large as and much more valuable than the gifts Allan had brought.
The leading bodyguard nodded to Ryan and continued to take out various gifts from the boxes. “This is Gurkha Royal Courtesan Cigar worth eight-hundred-thousand dollars for Lumi’s second uncle. This necklace is for her third uncle…”
Preston Parker was very thoughtful and had a gift for each of the Mears family members, and each gift was at least several hundred thousand dollars in value.
Those relatives of the Mears family took their gifts and could not wait to stuff them into their arms, as if fearing that they might be taken back. When they looked at Ryan again, they looked at him in a new light.
‘Is Ryan really this rich?’
“It’s so sweet of you, Ryan. I almost feel like I don’t deserve such an expensive gift,” said Lumi’s aunt.
“You may return it to me if you don’t feel like accepting it,” said Ryan.
Lumi’s aunt let out an embarrassed smile. “Forget it. I am happy to accept it since it is your token of appreciation. But, Ryan, why are you so rich all of a sudden and bought so many gifts at once?”
This was a question everyone would like to ask. The gifts Ryan brought this time were far more expensive than what Allan had brought, at least tens of millions of dollars in value.
‘Is Ryan not just a waiter at a bar? How could he spend so much money all at once?’
‘Is he an invisible rich tycoon?’
Ryan’s mouth twitched as all eyes were on him. “You all are overestimating me. It was Preston Parker who prepared these gifts for me in return for a favor I gave him. Isn’t it, Matt?”
He winked at the leading bodyguard while speaking.
Matt was the captain of the bodyguard team that delivered the gifts on behalf of Preston Parker, who did not want to appear in person. Preston Parker had asked Matt to represent him.
Matt quickly nodded. “Yes, yes! Mr. Parker said these gifts are meant for you, Mr. Fletcher, as a token of appreciation for your help in the past. If there is nothing else, we will leave first.”
‘No wonder.
‘It is Preston Parker again.
‘It makes sense now.
‘Hmph!
‘Ryan is still Ryan, a loser. The gifts from Preston Parker, according to the bodyguard, is a return for Ryan’s favor. That means there will be no support coming forth for Ryan after that.’
After Lilian understood Matt’s words, her smile faded instantly. “Hmph! I have said it all along; trash is trash. You are just pretending to be somebody simply because you know someone.”
Ryan glanced at Lilian and said nothing. Instead, he turned to Allan. “What else do you have to say, Allan? My gifts are much better than yours. Dream on if you think you can steal my wife from me with that kind of gifts. By the way, I remember you have just said that if my gifts are better than yours, you will eat a sock raw.”
While speaking, he reached to take off one of his socks and threw it at Allan. “Eat it while it is still fresh, Allan. It smells good.”
