Chapter 36: Back on Monday

“I have a break on the weekend, so I will return on Monday.” Having said those words, Gu Chen walked past Jian Sangyu and as he entered the room, he turned around suddenly and said, “You don’t have to make breakfast so early at the weekend if I am at home. I will bring some in from outside the compound after I finish running.”
What Jian Sangyu heard were the key words – what did he mean by being at home at the weekend?
He couldn’t be serious, right?
Gu Chen had no words to express his feelings when he found Jian Sangyu standing there transfixed. She looked as if she had been shocked by thunder and lightning, and that made him feel very comfortable inside.
“After breakfast, we will go back to the Gu Family’s house.” Gu Chen said these words and left home for the jogging.
Jian Sangyu went back to the bed, feeling paralyzed. She felt that her life had become meaningless.
In the Gu Family’s house, there was Grandpa Gu who was even more intimidating than Gu Chen. Jian Sangyu dared to be fierce against Gu Chen every now and then, yet in front of Grandpa Gu, she couldn’t just burst out with words any old how. She wished that she could be transparent air in front of him.
She was more scared of Grandpa Gu than of Gu Chen. When Grandpa Gu was young, he could break the table single-handed and when Jiang Xing caused trouble, he was beaten by Grandpa Gu so fiercely that he was barely able to leave the bed.
From that time on, Jian Sangyu became as docile as possible in front of Grandpa Gu, because she was afraid that Grandpa Gu would get furious one time and break her tiny and thin waist.
Jian Sangyu barely visited the Gu Family’s Villa after she got married. She only visited the house on New Year’s Eve, whether or not Gu Chen was around.
When Gu Chen said that Jian Sangyu needed to be at the house, she just couldn’t turn it down. What if Grandpa Gu found that she was not around and asked about her whereabouts, her secret would be revealed instantly if Gu Chen said that she was at work.
After wallowing in self-pity for a few more minutes, Jian Sangyu texted Zhong Yanting and asked for leave. She had thought that Zhong Yanting had not woken up at this moment, yet a few seconds later, Zhong Yanting replied to her and approved her of the application. She added afterwards, that she had known that Jian Sangyu would not be able to be at the company at the weekend, when Gu Chen was home.
Jian Sangyu was not sure how Zhong Yanting knew the truth, because this guy had been quite irregular recently and she was not sure why Gu Chen would change within such a short space of time.
Men tended to have an unpredictable heart, one that was impossible to foresee at all.
Gu Chen jogged for more than forty minutes downstairs and came home with breakfast. They ate breakfast and left home. When they reached the Gu Family’s House, it was already past seven o’clock.
As the couple entered the room, Grandpa Gu was doing air boxing with his fists in full spirit. Seeing the couple entering the room one after the other, Grandpa Gu stopped and frowned. Then he said, “It is not a holiday or a festival, what are you two doing here? So strange.”
“I am at home during the weekend, so I came here to check in.” Gu Chen explained briefly. Seeing his Grandpa still full of energy, he felt assured.
Grandpa brushed the dust off his collar and said, “You must behave well as the Chief rather than running about as you wish. That’s not proper!”
Jiang Xing’s mother Gu Qingxi came over to them and sneered, “Dad, when Gu Chen is not around, you said that he took the team as his wife. Now he is here, you are still lecturing him. What do you want him to do anyway?”
Grandpa Gu glared at Gu Qingxi without any more words. He waved his hands and asked the couple to follow him in.
