Chapter 37: Worse than A Dog

Jian Sangyu had been hiding behind Gu Chen the moment she entered the room. She had tried to keep herself invisible except for the first meeting she had with Grandpa Gu. It was not until Grandpa Gu and Gu Qingxi talked with her did she start to respond a bit.
As they entered the room, the Akita dog which had just been lying down looking all laid-back at the doorstep took a few glances at the visitors when he suddenly noticed Jian Sangyu. Then he instantly stood up and barked at Jian Sangyu, running towards her and circling her around, wagging his tears to express how excited he was.
“General!” Jian Sangyu instantly smiled brightly. She bent down and massaged General’s head.
General was Grandpa Gu’s dog that had been at the Gu Family for many years. The moment General came to the Gu Family, Jian Sangyu had been thinking about getting General home for herself. Due to Grandpa Gu’s amazing fighting prowess, she had not dared to do anything yet.
General ran off after circling Jian Sangyu for a while and then disappeared into his nest. But as Jian Sangyu sat down on the sofa with Gu Qingxi, General came to her with the rope in his mouth. He stood in front of Jian Sangyu and placed the rope into Jian Sangyu’s hands as he looked at Jian Sangyu with a tilted head. Then he barked at the direction of the door.
“General wants you to bring him out for a walk.” Gu Qingxi put a hand over the dog’s head. “He knows that only you and Jiang Xing would have fun with him, so he always brings the rope to you and asks you to walk him.”
Jian Sangyu smiled shyly, and then turned her look towards Gu Chen. Seeing that Gu Chen was also looking at her, she blinked at Gu Chen, wondering if she was allowed to go out.
But Gu Chen turned away his look and ignored her, making Jian Sangyu twitch her lip slightly. Then she held the rope over the dog and whispered to Grandpa, “Grandpa, can I bring General for a walk in the yard?”
“Yes.” Grandpa Gu waved his hand to allow Jian Sangyu to leave. Then he threw a look at Gu Chen. He had noticed how the two had interacted with each other a moment ago.
Although she had not dared to ask for the permission to bring General outside the home, it was still quite pleasing that Jian Sangyu could take him out in the yard instead.
Without her, Gu Qingxi started to tease Gu Chen more directly.
“Why are you always so silent? Why did you say nothing when Jian Sangyu asked you for permission just now?” Gu Qingxi patted Gu Chen’s shoulders and did not know what to do with him. She had thought that Gu Chen’s weird personality would be changed, even by just a little bit after marriage, yet he still remained the same.
As Jian Sangyu’s laughter and General’s barking became increasingly clearer, Grandpa Gu followed the voice and looked outside the yard when he caught the scene of Jian Sangyu playing with General with a ball she found from somewhere. Jian Sangyu had started to sweat and the perspiration graced forehead, yet her bright smile was even more pleasing than the way she tried to hide herself timidly a minute ago. Grandpa, who was now in a better mood because of Jian Sangyu’s bright smile, felt even gloomier as he noticed Gu Chen’s expressionless face.
He snorted. “Jian Sangyu’s favorite in the entire Gu Family is this very dog called General! You are even worse than a dog, what is the point of living in this world?”
