Chapter 1145: Chapter 1145: You Don’t Love Me Anymore
Who is it, after all?
How could mere footsteps make someone feel so threatened?
Since last night, Ji Fang had been following the Deputy Director and had broadened his horizons, meeting many faces normally seen only in the news. Yet none of those big shots had as oppressive a presence as these footsteps.
Entering his field of view was a tall and slender figure, around thirty years old, with an estimated height of nearly one meter ninety. Perhaps due to the warmth indoors, a brown checkered overcoat was casually draped over his shoulders, and he wore a tailored, elegant suit without a tie. The top two buttons of his white shirt were undone, revealing a sliver of appealing wheat-colored skin.
His features were rugged, yet held an absent-minded playfulness and romantic flair, especially those eyes.
Narrow and long, they carried a hint of mockery and a suggestive smile.
Being glanced at by him, many would unconsciously blush and feel their hearts race.
The man walked up to Ji Fang, looking down at him from above.
This made Ji Fang even more nervous, holding his breath.
“So you’re the new secretary of the third one?” the man asked, his voice having the texture of gold striking jade.
“I am, may I ask who you are?” Ji Fang asked defensively, fearing the man had ill intentions.
The man scoffed, “I am Zhou Jihuai. Has that kid not mentioned me to you?”
Ji Fang shook his head honestly, but his tense heart relaxed. The way he mentioned the Deputy Director sounded very intimate, and he had the Zhou surname too, so he must be family.
“That kid really is ungrateful, hardly ever thinking of his little uncle. I had to come all this way when I heard he was sick.” Zhou Jihuai muttered to himself as he entered the hospital room, familiar with the way. As he approached the door, Father Zhou, seemingly startled by the noise outside, rushed out.
“Jihuai? How come you’re back?”
Zhou Jihuai and his Big Brother Zhou Jingxin had a full eighteen-year age gap, standing together they seemed more like father and son than brothers. It’s said that the eldest brother is like a father, and indeed their relationship was very close. The Little Zhou had been very busy since childhood, hardly ever at home.
Zhou Jihuai had been brought up by his Big Brother, so rather than brothers, they were more like father and son.
The same tradition continued with the next generation. Not long after the twins of the Zhou family were born, Zhou Jingxin’s position rose, and he became busier. Many issues involved confidentiality agreements, often preventing him from going home.
Although Zhou Jihuai was only a few years older than his nephews, he took on the role of both father and Big Brother, playing with the two super cute little nephews.
He still remembered, the two identical little babies toddling unsteadily after him, barely able to walk, setting out to find people in the yard to side with their little uncle.
Back then, Zhou Jihuai was unbeatable in the yard, often going out to fight. Every time he returned, it deeply worried the two endearing little nephews.
That time was the most beautiful memory for him, yet now it was overshadowed.
“If I don’t come back, I’m afraid there won’t be a single nephew left for me.”
Zhou Hengxing poked his head out from behind the door, with an aggrieved tone, “Little Uncle, you are biased, you don’t love me anymore.”
Zhou Nini couldn’t help but roll her eyes, adding insult to injury, “You never loved him in the first place.”
“Go, go, go…” Zhou Jihuai pushed Zhou Hengxing back in with a slap on his back, ignoring him completely, “Aren’t you guys leaving yet?”
“Hengguang isn’t awake yet, I want to spend more time with him,” remarked Zhou Jingxin, who rarely got to visit and naturally wanted to stay longer with his son.
“Alright, it’s no big deal. He’s just overworked, caught a chill without proper rest, and then got sick from getting blown by the Jiang Feng on a remote construction site.”
