Chapter 15: The Real Plan

Early in the morning inside this normal looking small building, everyone was busy preparing.
Liu Yuhao divided food to the number of people and gave them to everyone, including Ling Mo and Ye Lian.
Of course, two bottles of water and a few packets of snacks was useless to Ling Mo, whose backpack was filled with food. Not to mention Ye Lian, who was completely uninterested in human food.
But when the others took the small amount of food and saw Ling Mo’s careless expression, they all looked unhappy.
Lu Xin’s face was still swollen and he complained to someone next to him in a low voice, “He won’t even look after us yet he’s taking our food!”
“Stop it, do you want to get slapped again…” The boy with glasses turned around and frowned.
“Isn’t it because everyone is a coward?” Lu Xin’s face flushed red and suddenly shut his mouth after cursing in a low voice.
Even if Ling Mo didn’t look at him, he controlled his foul mouth and stopped talking when he saw Ling Mo walking towards them.
“Do you have any weapons?” Ling Mo couldn’t care less about people like Lu Xin and asked when he approached Liu Yuhao.
Liu Yuhao was digging through a few large backpacks at the time and took out a kitchen knife in embarrassment after hearing Ling Mo’s words, “This is the best that we have.”
It was difficult for ordinary people to be strong enough to cut off a zombie’s head with a kitchen knife. It was even hard for them to make a fatal wound on the zombies to stop their movements.
If they fought at a close proximity to zombies, it was a test to ordinary people’s will and reaction speed even with a weapon in hand. If Ling Mo didn’t have the help of zombie puppets, even he wouldn’t be able to improve much from fighting alone.
However, having kitchen knives was better than fighting with bare fists.
“Try to give one to every person. A single zombie is only slightly more powerful than normal people. They’ll be able to fight back if they have the slightest courage. In the end, zombies’ main advantage lay in numbers.”
Ling Mo described lightly. If a normal person encountered a single zombie, indeed they would be able to fight back. It was exactly why Ling Mo looked down on these worms with perfect limbs and stamina yet relying on a little girl to live.
“Easy to say!”
Although someone complained in dissatisfaction, everyone crowded around Liu Yuhao for a weapon.
Judging from Ling Mo’s attitude, he wouldn’t make a move even if they were in danger. In case Xia Na and Liu Yuhao didn’t have time to look after them, they couldn’t just stand there and wait for death…
Soon, they all got their food and weapons and Xia Na came back with blood dripping down her long sword.
She had cleaned up those zombies wandering around the building to open up a route for them before they left.
“Let’s go. We must reach the Third Middle School before the afternoon.” Xia Na stood by the door, her stubborn and prideful face looked determined.
After she spoke, the group of people exchanged glances with each other and closely followed Liu Yuhao down the stairs. On the other side, Ling Mo and Ye Lian walked behind them.
As soon as they pushed open the door, two dead zombie’s bodies appeared in their sights and a few girls immediately cried in surprise.
“Shush! You’ll attract more zombies!” Xia Na turned around frowning at them.
Those girls immediately covered their mouth with her hands. Although the boys didn’t make a sound, their expressions weren’t good either. Ling Mo watched silently and shook his head. They weren’t even as good as ordinary survivors after living as worms for so long. After so long, probably no survivors would be frightened by dead bodies.
“The Third Middle School is in this direction. We have to cross three residential districts, two large streets and a hospital. There’ll be a lot of zombies on the way there. You just have to help me when I can’t handle it,” Xia Na turned around and informed Ling Mo.
Ling Mo nodded calmly and held Ye Lian’s hand. There were many factors to why he agreed to help Xia Na. He pitied and respected the girl, and he also wanted to do something for Wang Lin as the dagger was rather convenient to use. However, Wang Lin was dead, so he could only help her relative…
But it was also an opportunity to Ling Mo in another aspect. He could use this chance to learn more about the city’s situation, he could improve his ability to control his puppets and increase his combat experience.
In fact, when he worked with Ye Lian and when he tried to control multiple zombies yesterday, Ling Mo faintly felt like although he was becoming more familiar with the skill, there was still a barrier between them. Perhaps it was a bottleneck…
Ling Mo didn’t know what kind of state he would be in after breaking through. The faster he increased his ability, the faster he could help Ye Lian evolve and perhaps she could regain her consciousness soon.
After eating the gel-like part of the mutated zombies and the tiniest of consciousness sprouted, Ye Lian wasn’t so interested in normal zombies’ brain part anymore as the effect wasn’t too obvious.
It meant that he must find more mutated zombies for Ye Lian…
According to both experiences of encountering mutated zombies and from his analysis, Ling Mo thought that mutated zombies’ spawning location should be somewhere with a certain number of zombies in a sealed-off place.
Whether it was the hospital or school, especially an all-day boarding school, mutated zombies might show up there!
Ling Mo decided in the same second when he agreed to help Xia Na. He will move separately than Xia Na and the others when they reach the front gate. They will go help those people and he will take Ye Lian around the school to look for mutated zombies!
With so many burdens, Xia Na and the others couldn’t move too quickly. But when they saw Xia Na slaughtering zombies cleanly and lightly, these people’s fear decreased quite a bit. Although Liu Yuhao’s combat ability wasn’t as good as Xia Na, he worked together with her quite well. Whenever Xia Na forced a few zombies back, he would dash to the front and kill one or two of them, then back off behind Xia Na immediately.
On the contrary, no one else dared to make a move despite having weapons…
After they crossed the first residential district rather smoothly, the first victim finally appeared.
When they crossed a shop, a hand suddenly stretched out from behind the collapsed shelves, grabbing onto one of the boys.
The boy only had time to let out a yelp before he was pulled into the shelves with a loud bang.
Ling Mo was the closest to him and when he kicked the shelves apart, seven or eight zombies already torn the boy’s throat. His eyes were wide open and blood gushed out his mouth, unable to talk. In merely a minute, a large hole was torn in his throat and his trachea ripped out.
A small zombie lifted its head up with a bloody mouth. Its red eyes stared at Ling Mo coldly through its messy hair as if it was looking at a dead man and it abruptly leaped up.
It was easy to kill a single zombie to Ling Mo especially after he learned how to use his puppet control ability to affect them temporarily.
Ling Mo temporarily controlled it when he briefly made eye contact with the small zombie. The seemingly attacking leap was also in fact controlled by Ling Mo.
As the small zombie was about to crash into him, those behind him yelled as Ling Mo waved the short dagger in his hand expressionlessly.
“Puu!”
A stream of blood splattered onto the wall with Ling Mo’s movement, the small zombie fell on the ground heavily front mid-air, landing at Ling Mo’s feet.
“He’s dead.”

Ling Mo didn’t take another glance at the dead zombie and stated briefly as he looked at the boy lying in a pool of blood.
The group fell silent. After a few seconds, a girl suddenly wailed out of fear, she immediately covered her mouth when she was about to make a sound. She blocked her cries inside her mouth and it became indistinct whimpers.
The other girls also stared at the body that was still twitching slightly in horror. Their eyes were red and the boys weren’t doing any better.
