Inside the bedroom, Xia Na was still unconscious and Ye Lian sat next to the bed. Her lit up eyes were fixed on Xia Na.
Naturally, Ye Lian didn’t eat normal food and Ling Mo’s actions were only for show.
Since he said he was here to give her food, it would be normal to stay here for a while. Ling Mo walked next to Xia Na and observed her reactions carefully.
To someone who swallowed two gels continuously, Xia Na was too calm. Her breathing was stable and her expressions were normal without any pain. Still, he was sure that a virus storm was happening inside Xia Na’s body, yet no one knows what it will bring to her.
After observing for more than ten minutes, he finally returned to the living room. It was getting dark and to be safe Ling Mo pulled down the curtains completely and blocked the door with furniture. This way, they would be able to hold on for a while longer if anything happened.
Wang Cheng and Liu Yuhao became nervous. It was too intense for them to stay in a completely unfamiliar and unclean environment for a night. Who knows when zombies will pass by their door?
“Don’t make too much noise.” Ling Mo looked much calmer and only urged them to do so.
“What’s the arrangement for the watch tonight?” Liu Yuhao obviously treated Ling Mo as their pillar and immediately asked after nodding.
Ling Mo pondered for a while and said, “Everyone will watch for three hours. Ye Lian will guard Xia Na and I’ll check on them when I’m on shift.”
“No, I’ll do it with Wang Cheng. Brother Ling, you can just guard Xia Na with Sister Ye Lian.” Liu Yuhao shook his head slowly. “You need to be on shift and watch over Xia Na. It’s too tiring. Wang Cheng and I have nothing to do and this is all we can do.”
Wang Cheng also nodded on the side in agreement. Seeing that they insisted to do so, Ling Mo agreed without a choice.
In fact, keeping an eye for them wasn’t an easy thing to do!
Night fell on them and in the completely silent building, all sorts of noises were heard and they could even hear noises from above them, not to mention those noises from the outside! Sitting pitch-black alone and listening to all sorts of small sounds from all directions, the horror inside their heart gradually enlarged, making them suffer.
Occasionally, slightly louder noises would make the watcher jump up like a startled bird, and nervously trying to figure out where the sound was from, how far it was, and if they were safe…
But even so, Wang Cheng thought that he would rather be worried and scared in the living room alone than staying with Xia Na. Hence, he volunteered to watch out for the first half of the night and he even put a stool close to the door to avoid any noises. After all, he would be the first one to die is something happened.
Although Liu Yuhao’s head was still full of thoughts, it was a tiring day and he ran out of stamina. After a while, he fell asleep on the couch.
Ling Mo moved a small sofa seat inside and settled down in the farthest corner, closing his eyes to rest. It also had been a tough day for Ling Mo; he couldn’t compare to a zombie and if he didn’t rest, he wouldn’t be able to regain his stamina. The thing that should be avoided in the apocalypse as they would be able to fight a few zombies, but they will be fighting with speed and stamina if they encountered a large group of zombies.
Although Ling Mo didn’t actually fall asleep deeply, as he rested, he wouldn’t go into deep sleep temporarily and wake up after a few minutes again. This kind of sleep method was mastered by all the survivors, but Ling Mo grasped it even more than others. It was because of his special power, puppet control. But the most important reason was that his spirit power was stronger than normal people and evolved once.
The so-called spirit power was a general term for things such as concentration and observation. Using his puppet control power was to take a portion of his spirit power. Using it to control zombies that were unconscious and driven by their instincts. To do two things at once wasn’t easy, especially during a fight. A life or death battle focused on one’s mental or physical reaction speed. If one couldn’t focus, how will they be able to match the zombie’s speed?
So at first, Ling Mo controlled zombies to fight and he hid behind the curtains. Later, he dashed into the fight with his puppets’ protection. Until he controlled Ye Lian, he began to slowly grasp the way of fighting with zombie puppets. During the process, Ling Mo’s spirit power became more enduring as when Ye Lian evolved, she affected Ling Mo and made Ling Mo evolve, later evolving again after trying to control two zombies at the same time.
The evolution of spirit power was a rather vague concept. Only Ling Mo knew how it felt like. Speaking simply, when he controlled Ye Lian and especially when he commanded her fight, he had to use all of his spirit power or Ye Lian would easily break free from him. Although Ling Mo’s reactions were fast, when he gave orders to Ye Lian, there was always a delay in Ye Lian. Taking Ling Mo as the command center, then his spirit power was like a link. During the progress of transferring data, the link wasn’t strong enough and hence resulting in the delay.
But after the evolution, the link immediately advanced, and giving orders became faster and more stable.
Right now, Ye Lian was like a copy of Ling Mo as he could control her without any barriers. Of course, he didn’t actually treat her like that. During all the fights, Ling Mo was constantly trying to level up his skills without relying on Ye Lian to help him. The majority of the time, he was the main fighter and Ye Lian was supporting him. Although a normal person was very different from a zombie, the zombies weren’t completely undefeatable.
The reason why zombies were so terrifying was that as long as they discover a prey, they would attack crazily and they wouldn’t back off no matter how severely injured they were. Ordinary fought fearfully and nervously, afraid that they would be injured. Seeing zombies intimidated themselves first and lost their imposing manner first. But to Ling Mo who constantly worked with zombies, and even lived with zombies, they weren’t so scary to him.
Other than the group advantage zombies have, ordinary people have more advantage when they encountered a single zombie. Zombies acted based on their instinct and looked scary, but it was also their weakness as humans could fight tactically, not blindly.
Ling Mo also knew that it was merely a thought. The majority of people decided to stay in groups as they struggled for survival. There were simply too many zombies in the city. One madman wasn’t scary, but what about a crowd? Millions of bloodthirsty madman wandered the city. It was such a horrifying scene!
Although Ling Mo had his power and had Ye Lian with him, even he could do nothing but escape when he encountered a large number of zombies. Like when they fought in the rotating door, they used the barriers to kill those zombies but many died too. Ling Mo reflected and he wasn’t able to deal with it if there was only Ye Lian and him. If they didn’t have Xia Na who fought crazily…
“Hmm?”
A strange sensation made Ling Mo completely wake up. He abruptly threw the blanket off himself and looked towards Xia Na.
Just now, Xia Na, who was being watched by Ye Lian, suddenly opened her eyes eerily.
