Chapter 44: Moonless and Windy Night For Killing
Ling Mo was extremely delighted for the night.
He even opened a tin of beer which Liu Yuhao gave him to reward himself.
Ye Lian and Xia Na sat in front of him. Ling Mo saw Xia Na as a mutated zombie now and she was somewhat evolving too, except her direction of evolution was different to Ye Lian.
Ye Lian was extremely strong and during her evolution. Even though her psychological recovery was slow, her physical body strengthened obviously after each process.
However, Xia Na was different as she was infected twice. She didn’t become a zombie during the mutation process as she continued to absorb viruses, making her return to her normal human state instead of becoming a complete zombie. If she wasn’t threatened in any way or had the desire to attack, Xia Na would act normally, other than the fact that her brain… wasn’t so smart.
But on the other side, she would fight like a zombie tirelessly when her instincts as a zombie awakened.
Although they both looked pretty, Ling Mo was well aware that both of them were horrifying human slaughter machines.
Ling Mo’s wish was to make these two weapons become human again, or at least as close to a human as possible. Xia Na’s ‘split’ personality and Ye Lian’s tiny changes made Ling Mo become even more motivated on this task.
If he didn’t have to look at Ye Lian’s cold and expressionless eyes every day with Xia Na occasionally speaking to him, how happy would he be?
Not to mention that his speed also increased significantly, it was great to have a pair of fast legs when facing zombies since there was no increase in his power.
Ling Mo sipped on his beer while lifting a corner of the curtain up, peeking outside the window.
Zombies appeared outside the plaza like dark shadows. Dark nights like these were even more advantageous to them compared to humans and there usually weren’t any survivors out in a night like this.
When the zombies didn’t attack, they acted slowly and rigidly. Their bodies also rocked subconsciously. Unless survivors lured these zombies away, they wouldn’t leave this area.
However, zombies slowly became hungry and although they didn’t consume energy as much as humans, they still required a large amount of food.
The plaza was a rather open and spacious area, there weren’t any supermarkets that could supply food. Ling Mo concluded that there probably weren’t any survivors or prey in this area for quite a few days.
There also weren’t a lot of people like Ling Mo who dared to hide on the second floor of a small building and observe these zombies.
However, Ling Mo didn’t do it because he was suddenly interested, but because he heard some slight noises. The most important thing was that the noise came directly from the shop below him.
A zombie dashed out of the shop abruptly in front of Ling Mo’s eyes and he could see her body tainted with blood under the moonlight.
“Hm? Did she eat the other one?” It was possible; the sound he just heard sounded like a stray dog gnawing on bones!
It was indeed a moonless and windy night for killing! She didn’t make a move during the day and waited until the middle of the night when there was no light…
It was the first time Ling Mo saw a normal zombie attack of its own kind. He only saw them eating dead bodies, but he had never seen the first step to mutation, which was attacking their own kind.
It caught Ling Mo’s interest as he studied the middle-aged zombie who dashed out of the shop closely, wondering what she would do next.
After the female zombie killed the one next to her, she dashed towards the zombie closest to her.
Perhaps that zombie wasn’t hungry enough to kill their own kind yet, it wasn’t prepared at all and its head was twisted off before it could fight back. The female zombie lowered her head and gnawed the head crazily. She was too far from Ling Mo and he didn’t know if she ate the brain of the zombie.
Ling Mo’s scalp felt numb from watching a zombie eating human flesh, even if he knew the victim was a zombie as well. Although he had two mutated zombies with him, they didn’t eat so bloodily like this…
Zombies were infected humans, completely different from those zombies in the movies that resurrected. But because they attacked living humans and ate them, not many survivors treated them like humans.
There weren’t many zombies in the square and most of them were crowded over the other side, which was far from Ling Mo. But the female zombie’s actions immediately caught the attention of those zombies.
More than ten agile shadows pounced the female zombie. If Ling Mo didn’t see it with his own eyes, who would believe it that they were still wandering slowly just a second ago?
However, these zombies didn’t come to attack the female zombie. They came to eat. The body of a dead zombie was no different from a living human. When a crowd of zombies rushed towards one single direction, some zombies were ripped into pieces inevitably or they bumped into something and become wounded. Then, their cuts eventually attracted the others who ate the wounded zombi.
It was not easy being a zombie either… Ling Mo suddenly exclaimed.
However, the most noticeable thing was that they held an advantage in numbers. Despite zombies dying every day, so what? The number of survivors dropped much faster compared to zombies!
Seeing that more zombies came to fight for food, the female zombie displayed her cruelty once again. She threw herself towards the zombie close to her but to Ling Mo’s surprise, the zombie resisted!
Perhaps the zombie was on the verge of killing and he would wander again after eating something, but the female zombie decided to attack him first.
The stimulation of blood and the extreme starvation made this short zombie mad.
It was Ling Mo’s first time watching a fight between normal zombies. He widened his eyes, afraid that he would miss out on the details.
When these two zombies were fighting, the other zombies already finished the body. The speed of devouring was terrifying…
But it was obvious that one body wasn’t enough. The two zombies were fighting like wounded beasts.
When the other zombies turned their attention to the two, even Ling Mo who was watching from afar sensed that an even more disastrous slaughter would explode here tonight…
Compared to a normal person, these zombies’ speed, stamina, and strength were all much superior. Especially when they attacked crazily, any normal people would shudder at the sight of it.
As long as they had a breath left, they wouldn’t back off. The fight between them was more like a battle between two beasts.
The female zombie ate the most and she was the most frantic one. Ling Mo saw her grabbing an arm and pulling it off from that zombie’s body.
Her power was terrifying and usually, zombies couldn’t do it. It was why they often used their teeth instead as their jaws were stronger.
In an instant, flesh and blood splattered everywhere. Zombies gurgled and Ling Mo wanted to throw up at the bloodiness.
Although Ling Mo was interested in the process of mutation, he could only watch for a while. When he just turned around, Xia Na stood up when he wasn’t watching and she stared outside blankly.
Would the scene impact Xia Na even though she was somewhat conscious? Ling Mo pondered curiously.
