Chapter 53: New Shelter
Ling Mo left Wang Ling at the hotel. He knew that she would naturally leave after she recovered from the shock. Whether she could find Li Yu or not depended on Wang Cheng and her luck.
Ling Mo hesitated slightly when he thought of how to deal with Wang Cheng.
He never had any good impressions towards Wang Cheng who was full of schemes, ruthlessness, and cruelty.
He thought that Wang Cheng would behave himself once he went into the campus, but he didn’t expect Wang Cheng to climb onto the “big tree”, Wang Ling. Liu Yuhao probably wouldn’t have a chance to stand out with Wang Cheng there. Perhaps Wang Cheng will use him as much as he could because they were classmates.
Wang Cheng knew too much about him. Although Wang Cheng didn’t seem to tell Wang Ling that Xia Na was a zombie from her reactions, Ling Mo couldn’t promise that Wang Cheng wouldn’t give him any problems in the future.
“Let’s just pretend I did something good.” Ling Mo secretly thought to himself and closed his eyes. When he opened his eyes, the connection between him and the zombie completely broke off.
A zombie out of control and a living human who was still unconscious… there was no need to think about what’s going to happen next…
Perhaps Ling Mo was affected by the frantic environment. Ling Mo didn’t feel panic when he first killed. However, that didn’t mean that he would become a homicidal maniac. When Ling Mo broke the connection with the zombie, he still hesitated for a while.
He threw the hesitation behind when he closed his eyes.
If he wasn’t cruel to others in the apocalypse, others were going to push him over…
Ling Mo and the others walked carefully on the street and killed many zombies on the way before they finally went into a residential building, which was the new shelter Ling Mo picked.
His destination was City X University, but Wang Ling wasted his time and it was impossible for them to make it to the university today. Luckily, this place wasn’t far from there.
This building was located near an abandoned construction building. The yard was turned into a parking lot. The environment was extremely eerie and gloomy. Luckily, there weren’t many zombies around them and Ling Mo didn’t plan to kill them all. They used cars to hide and secretly entered the building.
There weren’t many zombies there and most of the doors were open. Other than some broken furniture, mattresses were all over the floor. It looked like this building was where the builders slept and the residents inside the building moved out.
With Ye Lian and Xia Na’s sensitivity to zombies and destructive power, they soon cleaned up all the zombies in the building, piling all the bodies in one room and closing all the windows and doors. This way, they wouldn’t attract other zombies here. Ling Mo planned to find some burnt lime to seal the door completely.
Ling Mo thought that this place was good to hide in. There was a big street about 100 meters away, but this construction site here was a “pure land”.
When Ye Lian and Xia Na cleaned up the zombies, Ling Mo was trying to find an appropriate room for the three of them.
Fortunately, Ling Mo found a few buckets of spring water in a room on the third floor. There were even some gas cans, pots and bowls. There wasn’t any blood on it but only some dust.
In addition, he even found half a box of instant noodles and a few packets of instant milk tea.
Construction sides sure have good stuff… Ling Mo cleaned those mattresses excitedly and boiled some water to cook a steaming bowl of instant noodles. This place was rather remote and it was unlikely that they caught the attention of zombies like they would have in bustling areas. There were not going to be any problems if he was careful with it. It was still bright outside and fire wouldn’t attract zombies.
Ling Mo always wanted to throw up after having dry food for so long. Now that he could have something warm, he was extremely delighted. It was a shame that Ye Lian and Xia Na were zombies and they had no interest in normal food or they could have enjoyed the luxury together…
“Smells nice…”
Ling Mo had eaten a lot of instant noodles before and after the apocalypse, but he ate it dry in the apocalypse.
He hasn’t smelt the richness of warm food for a long time…
Instant noodles were something that those who stayed at home all day long ate, but it was extremely alluring to Ling Mo at the moment. Even Xia Na and Ye Lian were attracted by the smell and looked over a few times.
When the noodles just finished cooking, Ling Mo couldn’t wait and picked it up. He blew onto the noodles and sucked the noodles in.
“Ahhh… Awesome!”
It was extremely luxurious for survivors to have a bowl of hot instant noodles like this.
It was ironic. He had to consider too much before the apocalypse. Although he lived in a safe environment, he rarely felt satisfied. Now that he was living surrounded by danger where he might lose his life anytime, he was extremely excited by a bowl of noodles.
Living on was the only thing a survivor had to consider. But to Ling Mo, making Ye Lian and Xia Na regain their intelligence was more important than living on.
After he finished eating, he cleaned up simply and sat next to Ye Lian.
Although he ran around for the whole day, neither Ye Lian nor Xia Na looked tired. It wasn’t hard to understand; when zombies didn’t fight, they didn’t consume a lot of energy. Despite fighting a lot on the way here, most of the time Ling Mo controlled the zombies first and they only had to give them a fatal blow.
Xia Na’s performance was surprising to Ling Mo. He could only maintain his connection with Xia Na and he couldn’t control his actions which made him troubled. However, perhaps she regained some of her consciousness since Xia Na learned how to work with him during the fights.
She was skilled with her sword and it became part of her instinct to use it. After she regained some intelligence, her ability improved and she demonstrated her advantage with her sword.
Because there was still a connection between them, they were rather coordinated and the collaboration between them wasn’t any worse than that of Ye Lian and him. This was an unexpected surprise for him.
After he watched Xia Na use her sword, he couldn’t bear to see Ye Lian use her bare hands. Although she attacked fast and her fingers were strong, in Ling Mo’s heart, he thought that she shouldn’t be using her slim and delicate fingers for bloody and violent things like this. It was just unaesthetic…
He wanted to give his dagger to Ye Lian, but it was too short and had limited damage. It was fine in normal situations but it was weak in battles. Normal weapons weren’t good enough for Ye Lian. In addition to not being very useful, it may even lower her potential for attack.
Wang Ling’s appearance solved this problem with great timing like sending coal in the snow…
Ling Mo couldn’t help but smile as he pulled out the machete from behind. It was rather suitable for girls. The handle wasn’t long and it was even narrow, crafted in the shape of a crescent. It was rather light as a whole and extremely sharp just by looking at it. Although it wasn’t as good as the dagger in his hands, it was enough to kill zombies.
Although Wang Ling was arrogant, she indeed should be proud of herself for the machete she made. She was so young yet she could forge so well. She should be valued by her family. Also, she was skilled with her sword. It was normal that she wouldn’t put a normal person like him in her eyes.
After Ling Mo taught her a lesson, she wouldn’t only put him in her eyes now. She will surely remember him.
He passed the machete to Ye Lian, controlled her to wave it around a few times and it felt easy and comfortable in hand. Ye Lian finally could stop using her fingers. No matter how strong her fingers were, it was incomparable to weapons.
Ling Mo didn’t lay around and do nothing before it turned dark. He went to the construction site and searched around carefully. He found some lime power and sprinkled them outside the room with zombies in it. He went outside and found a steel pipe to block the entrance of the unit. It was much better than a lock.
After Ling Mo finished doing these, it was completely dark. The city became the zombies’ world again and all the survivors probably returned to their hideouts.
In the room, Ye Lian combined two intact mattresses together under his control and flipped the cotton wadding, putting it on top.
“I guess we’ll just have to sleep together tonight!”
