Chapter 48: Rumour
Gu Xiao Xiao stood by the door timidly and listened to the two women, who were using the microwaves, talk about her. She wanted to leave but then felt like she never did anything wrong, so why should she run away? She wanted to march forward as if nothing happened but felt like that would make things awkward.
“Right, I heard Gu Xiao Xiao was sick a while ago and apparently Manager Xu told the department head himself.”
“Really? What’s the relationship between Gu Xiao Xiao and manager Xu?”
“I am not sure…” The women still didn’t notice Gu Xiao Xiao, who was behind them and discussed excitedly. Their voices got higher, “Gu Xiao Xiao has a pretty face and she is young. She’s not like us, who are all married with kids. We can’t get those opportunities even if we want to.
“Xiao Xiao?” Just as the two were deep in discussion and as Gu Xiao Xiao was feeling at loss, someone suddenly called out her name from behind.
Gu Xiao Xiao looked back. It was Xi Wen Chong.
The two women who heard voices looked back nervously. After seeing Gu Xiao Xiao, they exchanged glances, smiled at each other fakely, and then left after saying bye to Gu Xiao Xiao.
After they left, Gu Xiao Xiao sighed helplessly. Where there are women there is gossip. She just never thought she herself would be the gossip.
“What a coincidence.” Gu Xiao Xiao regathered herself and smiled at Xi Wen Chong, “You work on this floor as well?”
“Yes, I transferred to the sales department this month. You are eating that for lunch?” Xi Wen Chong eyed Gu Xiao Xiao’s instant noodles and asked.
“I don’t have anything I want to eat so I will eat whatever is easy.”
“How can a girl eat that. I haven’t eaten either, let’s go check out the cafeteria downstairs.”
Feng Yang has an employee cafeteria. However, Gu Xiao Xiao hasn’t been many times since there are a lot of people there every day at lunch.
Gu Xiao Xiao was about to say no when she found Xi Wen Chong had already left. A little stunned, she sighed softly and followed.
They took the elevator to the first floor and as expected, there were no more seats. Xi Wen Chong didn’t seem to notice this and continued to chat Gu Xiao Xiao up.
“When did you return?” He asked while looking at Gu Xiao Xiao.
“Only yesterday. Today is my first day back at work. I didn’t think I’d run into you.” Gu Xiao Xiao smiled. She took a tray, took two vegetarian sides and a bowl of rice, and then walked up to the cashier.
Employees here can use their meal cards or cash. Every month, the company would issue meal cards to their employees. Gu Xiao Xiao doesn’t come here often so she didn’t bring her card. Just as she was about to pay, Xi Wen Chong opened his mouth.
“We are together, use this.” He handed the card to the cashier, then looked around. His gaze picked up a certain spot.
“Thanks, I’ll pay you back.”
“There’s no need to be so polite with me.” Xi Wen Chong patted Gu Xiao Xiao’s head and then pointed to the spot he saw, “Let’s go eat there.”
There were two men at the table who looked up to them after hearing their footsteps. They looked at Xi Wen Chong and then Gu Xiao Xiao before moving over a little.
“Wen Chong, this is?” The man sitting across from Xi Wen Chong glanced at Gu Xiao Xiao and asked with much interest.
“My junior, her name is Gu Xiao Xiao. She is an intern in the marketing department right now.” Xi Wen Chong introduced Gu Xiao Xiao, “They are from my department. This is Zhang Lei, and that is Liu Lei.”
