Chapter 54: I Painted that Painting when I was Young
“That girl must use this painting?” Shen Qian Yun asked with a frown.
“She is in love with this painting and says this is the one.” Gu Xiao Xiao bitterly smiled. “Grandma, you should go and rest too. We will find a way to deal with this ourselves.”
Shen Qian Yun nodded and left the room. Standing by Gu Xiao Xiao’s door, she softly sighed.
The next day, Gu Xiao Xiao left for work in the morning. After Shen Qian Yun cleaned up the kitchen, she went to the study room.
Chu Xiao Xi was on the phone using fluent French. Shen Qian Yun had no idea what she was saying.
“Grandma, you need something?” Noticing Shen Qian Yun at the door, Chu Xiao Xi moved the phone away from her mouth and asked.
“Yes, but you finish what you are doing first.”
Shen Qian Yun sat down before the sofa and waited for Chu Xiao Xi to hang up. She then came up behind her and asked straight away, “Girl, did you find the original artist of that painting?”
“Not yet.” Chu Xiao Xi’s eyes were bloodshot and she was feeling very exasperated. “I have searched it up. It is a painting from several decades ago. To find its original painter is extremely difficult.”
“Aye, out of all the paintings, why are you so keen on that one painting?”
Chu Xiao Xi found Shen Qian Yun’s words strange. She looked over at Shen Qian Yun with much confusion and waited for her to finish what she wanted to say.
“I didn’t want to mention it but seeing how torn up you all are about this hurts me.” Shen Qian Yun looked out the window and said slowly, “I painted that painting when I was young.”
Chu Xiao Xi gasped. She has now personally experienced the saying of how one feels when one looks for someone a thousand times but as it turns out, the person is right there where the light is dim.
“Grandma… you…” Chu Xiao Xi was dumbfounded, “Xiao Xiao never mentioned you were an artist.”
“She doesn’t know about this so why would she tell you? I never planned on telling her, so you shouldn’t mention this to her either.” Shen Qian Yun patted Chu Xiao Xi’s hand and said in a low voice, “You can do whatever you want with it. I am not going to say no to you.”
Shen Qian Yun’s words helped Chu Xiao Xi’s heart that has been suspending in midair to drop to the ground. She sighed a long relieving sigh and she had the urge to cry.
“Grandma, the girl in this painting, is she Xiao Xiao?”
“No, she is my daughter.” Shen Qian Yun’s eyes darkened. “Sadly, she has passed away.”
“Sorry grandma, I…”
“There’s no need to apologize. It happened many years ago.” Shen Qian Yun gently smiled. “So, you can stop worrying about this. Go carry on with your business, I am going to watch TV.”
Shen Qian Yun walked out of the room, leaving Chu Xiao Xi to sit on the couch alone with her thoughts.
She has researched the origins of this painting. Based on what she has found, this painting was bought by someone many years ago from an art show. As for the artist behind this painting, she was a locally famous artist who was well known early in her career. Sadly, people gradually lost touch with her.
No matter what, there has finally been development with this situation. Chu Xiao Xi took out her phone and dialed a number. She then said, “I have gotten the rights to the painting. Everything shall proceed as originally planned.”
Cheering was heard from the line. Chu Xiao Xi hung up the phone and leaned into the couch. She mumbled to herself, “Gu Xiao Xiao, you girl truly are my lucky star…”
Inside the Feng Yang Corporation building, Gu Xiao Xiao’s long white fingers were speedily tapping on the keyboard. She then suddenly received a text message from Chu Xiao Xi.
“I have found the artist. You no longer need to worry.”
The message made Gu Xiao Xiao sigh in relief. Finally, she no longer needs to see the crazy side of Chu Xiao Xi.
